Hi guys, hoping for some assistance with a bit of an unusual issue (for me at least).

Bought my Freelander a few weeks ago and up until today no problems to report. Driving home from work today however and noticed that my key was sticking out of the ignition a little further than usual. When I went to push it back in, the key came out completely but the engine kept running. The car has done about 130k so its not exactly a new ignition.

Not sure if I'm right in thinking this, but I assume I'm going to need a new ignition barrel. Looked everywhere online but can't find one anywhere. Any advice would be a great help.

And FWIW, this exact thing happens on one of my motorbikes. I don't worry about it (other than the keys flying out at high speeds) - it's actually pretty useful when the engine is running and you realise you need something out of the top box ;)

Had my fingers crossed with the WD40, but no luck I'm afraid. Took a look and managed to find a barrel and key from a breaker for £25, I'll just have to deal with using one key for the locks and another for the ignition. Think I'm going to try fitting it myself, from what I've read it doesn't seem too complicated. Thanks for the help all.

there used to be a way to set the locks to you original key I am sure it was only changing bits around but I believe it can be fiddly.
