When I bought my car about 6 months ago it came with both keys. The seller informed me that key number one was not working,it looked tatty too.Key number 2 looks great and works fine other than alarm fault coming up on dash which the seller said was down to this key.Decided to send the key away for a full recondition and received a mail today informing me that the key was empty...missing a pcb. What are my options now , do I carry on with just key number 2 or can number 1 be replaced . Am I looking at a visit to a random main dealer who will rob me blind. Should I even be concerned.

Order a new FOB #1 from a dealer. always best to have 2 working FOB's with a P38.
FOB #2 should not cause an alarm fault, there is a problem, diagnostics needed.

Hi Buster

Think it might be my service that your using and yes, the fob was unfortunately empty !

It looks like the previous owner had been at it and forgot to put the PCB back in. I'm working on a replacement fob service but as it stands right now your most accessible option is a new dealer provided key.

Cheers guys. Hi mr Sporty..small world on this interweb isn't it. Sorry again for sending you an empty fob , I still cant believe how dumb I am. My wife wrote and sent a letter to the previous owner earlier on the offchance they have the missing bit.It only had the one keeper before myself so you never know , and they only live 2 miles from me. Its a lady doctor so I don't want to just turn up unannounced .I bought the car off a 3rd party so have not met her.
Has anyone an idea of a cost on a key from a main dealer ?

Loads of money:(

£160 from mine. You'll need the V5C or whatever.

If it makes you feel any better I've just had a quote for a replacement Jag key: £110 for the key part + £145 for the blipper part + £85 labour to program them to the car. Then he mentioned the latest kit they have sometimes fries old Jags and leaves them immobilised requiring a new ECU.

So, anyone feeling hard-done by Land Rover should feel better now!

In this day and age it , why we just download an app to replace the blipper. . .Theres an app for everything else. First one to do one will be a squillionaire overnight.

Nice idea. If you could set your own password and hash it then it should be pretty good. Still leaves the issue of programming the car ECU to accept it though.

Hi, keys are about £130,and only HUFF know what keys have been issued, key 1 & 2 come with the car from new so you will receive key 3.;)

Not so, you can order a replacement key 1, the default on the dealer order is key 3 unless specified otherwise.

Very true. I have two of key 1 because the previous owner needed a spare and the LandRover dealer very helpfully guessed (wrongly) at which he was missing instead of ordering a key 3!

Original keeper rang me this morning in reply to the letter I sent. He turned up at my home 30 mins later with a mint looking working key2 and a key without a fob which I assume is a master key ? They both start the car. RESULT .

You lucky ******* so and so. What a result!

Would the one without a fob only do the ignition and door but not the glovebox and boot by any chance?
