Hello,

On removing key and leaving car message on display said ignition key in ! would not lock with this message on display. restarted car and switched off all was well again. Any suggestions as to why ? as do not want to get caught out if happens whilst away from home, would like to get it sorted now rather than later
thanks in advance for any pointers i should look for should point out i do not have any diagnostics equipment as yet :violin:
Thanks

Assume its a P38....

The lock barrel sticks...

See if you can either get behind the switch and clean the crud off or get one of those air spray cans and blow the lock out....then get some graphite powder and blow a small amount in the lock or put a bit of the key blade to lub the lock mech....for Gods sake don't use WD40.....

Hi,
I had this problem, there is a switch in the ignition barrel that is sticking.
Do not spray it with WD40 as this will eventually get sticky. Use a graphite lock lubricant. I got some for a couple of quid on Ebay, 1 quick spray and it's been fine since.

Must learn to type faster than SaintV8.

Had the same problem with mine yesterday...must be the cold weather? A quick spray with graphite spray as already suggested sorted it.

If you're unable to get some graphite powder today rather than turning the vehicle on and off again, just press the barrel with your finger a couple of times. It dislodges the switch though more often than not next time you come to turn off it'll happen again. So add some graphite to your shopping list.

I was getting same intermittently : it was no more than a nuisance but having read some stuff on here I simply, when I was taking the key out, instead of the usual straight draw, just put the slightest of pressure towards me, ( that is at 9 o/c looking at the barrel straight on.
Message stopped appearing and hasn't returned.

Thank you very much for the replies and much appreciated will get that sorted tomorrow, and a relief its such a simple job by p38 standards anyway ;)
Many thanks once again and hope all my future jobs are as simple.
