So yesterday the wife went out in the d2 td5 , with no prob , went to tesco no prob, then got to my parents house parked up in for a coffee , left it unlocked , came out hour or so later , won't start ! As she's used to it she gave the auto box a wiggle made shaw it was in park ! Still nothing ! Got out to lock unlock , but nothing , then locked it with key in door .alarm goes nuts !! . S I come out with spare key thinking her key fob is at fault , my key does not work , so I've check all fuses and tryed it with it on jumpers to my van to rule out batt prob , did some reading on here last night for probs and tryed removing the remote unit by rear sunroof clean the earth and refitted ,still nothing , so I've stared the car using the EKA code started 1st time , so to rule out the remote unit I have ordered a new one from LR , be here tomorrow , what I am not shaw of is why after using the EKA code to start car does it not restart if after you have taken key out , but not locked it ! , does the car /key need the remote unit to link them together , or should I be looking at maybe more being wrong than just a faulty remote unit ? And just a little note for people using the EKA code that has some letter in it A=10 B=11C=12D=13E=14F=15 . And if you don't know your code check it's in your serv book at the back on the code card , mine was not , buy LR gave me a full print out for free of all the cars codes, key /radio/EKA. Just take v5 and same ID with you .
 
Sorry if this has all been gone over b4 , did read all the old posts I found on the topic.whitch is what put me in the right direction . So picked up new remote unit on way to the disco , got to my parents house where after starting yesterday with the EKA code, I left it in there hearted garage overnight so would be nice and warm today while I fitted new part , and guess what just like said in older posts I found , it was all working again. So now I'm left with a waiting game for the unit to fail again . But at least I've got the part ready to go

You sure its the fob and not the starter motor.gives symptoms of being immobilised.all dash lights come and go turn key and nowt .mine been doing this for a while,wont start try again after a while starts. bought repair kit but not fitted. have to soon becoming an issue.

No was def the remote unit in the roof , it woudnt lock or unlock off fob , and started 1st time when I used the EKA code , i opened up the remote unit when I took it out ,as it simpley unclips to open and there was a little damp in it , so I dried it out and as there is room in the unit I poped in the little silica gel packet I had , this should help with any more condensation , but I do have the new unit on standby if not .:)
 
Whats the easiest way to get access to the remote receiver, must the roof lining be taken down completely or is there a workaround? Where abouts is it relative to the interior light, was thinking of cutting an access panel in the head lining?

(ours is not the most pristine Disco, it gets used for carting hay, towing horses etc, so a hatch in the roof lining wont get noticed!!!!)
 
Only the rear most part of the headlining between the sunroof and back door on a D2 I believe.

It's very easy to get to , I just pulled out the rear roof switch ,theres one screw under it , then pull off the trim round the rear roof .then you can pull the liner down enough, to get your hands in and get the the remote unit it just to the passages side in front of rear sunroof , then it's just two 8mm bolts and one pull out plug , you can get a 1/4 drive on it but I found a ratchet ring spanner better .:) just to add. I made shaw I could start the car using the EKA code b4 unplugging the unit . And disconnected the batt ,

I m having a similar problem with starting my 02 td5. Keys not working and have been trying to use key code to turn off immobiliser but it is tricky. Just wondering if I need an eka code? Is this different than key code? Also interesting that I have some leaks in rear sunroof and it was raining very heavy so not wondering if this is the cause of prob. Any suggestion or help very welcome.... John

Hi John , this was all new to me as well last week when the car fobs just stopped working in the middle of the day , after rulling out the batts in the fobs as both stopped work at the same time, I read some old threads about how damp in the remote unit can be a prob , so I took the unit out and it did have some condensation in it , the other threads said how drying out the unit got it working again , a new remote unit from LR is £50 cheaper on eBay but you get what ya pay for , but after leaving my D2 in a warm garage over night (Wednesday ) its worked fine ever since , but I did put one of them little silica gel packets you find that come with many things electrical you buy these days, but I do have the new unit ready if it plays up again . The EKA code can be found in the back of your serv's booklet there are to code cards in the back , if there are not there or have been removed . Or simple not been filled in like mine were . Thanks Paul. Sounds like the water coming my rear sunroof could be the root of prob. I am not very technical so is it difficult to find and remove the remote unit? Thanks John

No mate ,it's not to bad to get to , if you read back through this thread, I said how I got mine out ,without to much hassle , but as I said then I did make shaw I could get the car going 1st with the EKA so i could rule out ignition problems This is the part No YWY000080 if you do a google image search for it you will know what ya looking for in the roof , one thing I didn't say was the unit has a block of foam stuck right in front of it, so when you pull the roof lining down a little if you see the foam the unit is right there , I just pulled the foam off it's only suck to the roof with a bit of tape . If you can't get the car somewhere in the warm and dry over night ,and don't wont to splash out on a new part on a guess ,Or you could try disconnecting the batt ,then take the remote unit out overnight and put it somewhere warm to dry out , then pop it back in the next day , if ya lucky it might work again before it gets damp again, then at least you can buy the new part knowing that's what it was without wasting money .

Have the same problem, reading the post of others has given the answer to the problem, fingers crossed.
Been struggling but getting by - Open key fob-touch - cross contacts with flat blade ie; screwdriver.
One day in the rain when broken down, miles from home, opened the door the alarm started, unable to stop it,
until I shut the door again, then tried the method above who-ray it worked.
This I have found a temporary solution not knowing exactly the problem, until now, one hopes this will cure the fault.
Do hope this will help others. Good luck to you all.
