Hello to all new to the forum recently bought a p38 2.5dse but have a problem with key fob it will only lock and unlock by pointing it directly at drivers side rear quarter window and no where else can anybody tell me why
Thanks

Simple the ariel reciver unit is a very sensitive unit and when connected it picks up rouge signals this causes the becm to power up and can cause the becm and engine ecu to loose the security link and it won't start or you have a flat battery going flat as it keeps waking up the becm
There is a modified unit from land rover or you can live with it

:welcome2: Welcome to the asylum. Please put your location in your profile, it could be handy if you need a dig out from local members.

Regarding your problem, it would appear that someone has disconnected the antenna wire to the keyfob receiver (Blue single wire) located by the rear side window, drivers side. It can be accessed after removing the narrow trim which the parcel shelf locates. Chances are the car battery was being drained because the main ecu was being woken up by spurious radio signals. Loads of informatio on the forum..do a search.
New receiver required to stop the problem, cost around £170

You'll learn that when IRISHROVER talks about P38 electronics we ALL listen.

However just in case you think of it - DON'T change the batteries in your fob without having a d**n good read about EKA codes, unlocking procedures and anything else that seems even remotely linked.

Welcome

Thanks for the replies forgot to mention that when key is put in the ignition a warning is coming up that the key fob battery is low also the person i bought the range from said he had put a brand new battery on could this be linked ?
So is it a no no to just change the key fob batterys and will a new receiver solve the problem
Thanks

No, change the batteries by all means, just be aware of how to re-sync it to the car or how to get into the car if it stops working for any reason.

Thanks
Wheres the best place to get a new rf receiver
Land Rover stealer, NOT EBAY as you will likely get someones duff unit.
Low battery message may be a false message.
Make sure you have the EKA code before you change the batteries.
