Wouldn't it be easier to ask him to check the RR battery to see if thats dead seeing as everyone who's had the RF issue reports flat vehicle battery!

I don't see how the RF problem will prevent another receiver like the AA's tool to test the fob either!

And finally - now he's not using the fob but manually locking / unlocking the car should mean he is still getting vehicle battery drain if he was suffering the RF issue.

Its a real common head ache, I know - but in this case I just can't see it to be true.

But to be sure - you can always go and unplug the antenna behind the panel on the drivers side of the boot - this normally provides a work around for the RF issue rather than going out and spending the £100 on a new unit only to find your key fob is still fooked ;)
 
After reading this entire thread im not convinced its the 'dreaded' RF receiver problem either, unless the thing has complete gone bang, he hasn't got a flat battery and he hasn't had the BeCM loose the security code sync with the engine ECU.

I think you want to find a good local specialist with a Rovacom or similar diagnostic machine and then specifically use it to clear the RF memory and then read the RF memory to even see if the car is receiving a valid unlock signal from the key at all.

If you dont want to try a specialist, try unhooking the antenna from the RF receiver and then see if anything changes with remote locking and unlocking.

just to clarify. the key fob battery was going flat, not the car's battery. after using the key to input the EKA code, the car is driving fine, albiet i cant use the immobiliser. it seems to me the problem is te key fob itself, although its hard to trust the P38 RF unit too...

Common sense seems to dictate that a duff RF unit can only cause the car battery to go flat, not the fob battery.

If the fob battery goes flat, then it sounds like duff batteries or a faulty fob to me.......
