Hi
I have a TD4 Freelander 1, first registered here in Portugal in May 2001
It has a 'normal' ignition key with a separate LUCAS 17TN fob with two buttons, like here
When I bought the car it came with no spare, so I am now trying to find out how to get one.
On that site it says, 'The Freelander Remote key fob will work in the same way as the original, it works the immobiliser pre 2000 models, alarm, central locking (if fitted) models built after 2000 have a separate immobiliser, this will only programme the key fob NOT the BMW immobiliser ignition system.'
Does this mean that this fob is not part of the immobiliser on mine?
I dont see how, as there is nothing else on the key ring other than the key and the two button fob
Any advice?
Cheers

Your Fi is the same year as mine fob to unlock and lock and a little chip in the key for
The immobiliser.

Aha!
You are not wrong

So, do I have to get the key/immobiliser from LR, and get it programmed by LR or are there alternatives for this too?

They did tell me in the locksmith I went to here in Portugal that they could do the fob if it was only the remote unlocking and didn't have an immobiliser in it. Not sure how they would program it tho

On a parallel thinking route - Is there any way of disabling the immobiliser completely?

Most locksmiths can clone the chip in your key and give you a spare that way.
If you can find someone with a Hawkeye it’s easy to reprogramme any second hand fob, done it myself so know it can be done.

Actually its the imobiliser/key that's more important for me I think - I can like with turning a key to open the doors - although doesnt the fob also turn off the alarm?
