Hi all, I have fitted a kenlowe fan to my 90, which was a 2.5td but converted to 200 tdi...

So I have set it up as a suction fan, all works fine and comes ok when engine heats up. Only issue is that the temp guage doesnt seem to move back off almost red.....

Daft question I know, should i have set this up as a blower fan or any other ideas on whats up???

Does the temp reduce when you drive forward with forced airflow though the radiator?
If not either your rad is blocked, your thermostat is jammed closed, or your temp sender is faulty.

i know its a daft point (sic) but the fan doies blow air towards the back of the engione and not forward against the air flow?

Trust me its not a daft point!!! lol

Thats why i was asking if the correct set up was suction rather than blowing, I have it as suction and air is blown out the back towards the engine

Correct?

doesnt matter if it is mounted in front of the rad and blows thru rad - or behind the rad and sucks. wot yu dont want is it pushing the air forwards!

Sounds like the rad is your problem if there is no change in temp when driving forward. Take off the top and bottom hoses and give the rad a good flushing in both directions with a garden hose. Keep flushing until you get clean water out in both directions. Assuming your thermostat is good and the water pump is working then there is not a lot else it could be.

The modern idear for retro fitted electric fans is to that are fitted behind the rad and sucking fresh air through it, anyway the fan should switch on well before the gauge goes into the red you are asking a lot from a fan to bring that tempreture down quickly.

It may work if the fan is big ie. the width of the rad even so the tempreture should not be in or anywhere near the red sector before the fan switches in.

I'm going back to the disco forum now :D
