Hi all,just a quick one,my wifes 2.0 diesel freelander apparently kept on running when she turned off the ignition.Any one have any suggestions please??

Could be the turbo seals. How did she stop it? I'd get it checked as soon as you can, it could end up destroying the engine.

Which engine does it have? the L series or TD4?

Not sure what the anti dieseling solenoid is. But I don't think the td4 has 1. The injectors are fed from the high pressure pump and operated with electronics. Not sure what set up the l series has.
 
did you have anything plugged into the cigarette lighter ? used to happen with my astravan when I had one of the massive floodlight torches plugged in, used to back feed from the battery, could remove the keys and lock the van but the engine kept running indefinitely.

failing that, the freelander might have a diesel stop solenoid.
 
Was there a lot of smoke / smell when it kept on running?
That would suggest oil being burnt rather than diesel.

Did the dash lights remain on when she turned it off, which could suggest ign switch fault or the main relay perhaps?
