Hi'

I've just bought a 97' 2.5 diesel pretty cheap with electrical faults on a trade basis from a dealer. The faults are:-

Sunroof and windows wont work with relevant warning lights saying these are not set. Abs warning sometimes comes on. Driver door warning says it's open when it's not and now the dipped lights and tail lights stay on all of the time except when ignition is turned off - also flash and main beam won't work. I can smell a faint electrical smell from the fuse box in the engine bay (I used to be a mechanic in Roman times and we used our senses rather than computers to find faults) -also I have been told I have a big nose!

I've read that the fuse box may cause these problems rather than the BeCM unit. Any suggestions before I spend a lot of money? I'm now going to generally check earth leads, various connectors etc for corrosion.

Any help appreciated.

hi mate, door closed but panel saying it's open is probably going to be door latch, if you remove and open latch there is a microswitch inside plug it back in to wiring and operate it by hand if panel clears to show door is closed then faulty switch (replace) or fit new latch, as for windows and sunroof not set if you take the window all the way down and keep your finger on the button for a few seconds and then do the same when you take it all the way back up panel should say window set, do the same with the sunroof, as for lighting problems not had anything to do with these on my rangie yet still trying to solve my susspension problem lol, hope this helps you mate.
