Hi all, My first problem post!

my 1.8 k series has a leaky water pump. Bottle of K-seal didnt sort it so Im going to replace the water pump and seal. Quite wet around there so I guess I'd be wise to replace the cambelt and coolant temp sensor whilst im at it.

My question is for the cambelt though, I have seen the camshaft locking tools which are simple and straight forward, I'm not sure on locking the crankshaft though. Any tips or links for tools on locking it? Do i even need it?

Cheers :) Dave

First off. Never put K Seal anywhere need a K series, it's a recipe for disaster!! It's not designed to seal a water pump anyway.
I don't use the locking tool's, most of the time there is little need. Use 5 th gear and brakes to crack the crank pulley nut then turn the crank to the "safe" mark on the crank sprocket. If you have the tool to lock the cam sprockets, now's the time to use them. The rest is pretty straight forward. Once the new belt is on and tensioned, turn the engine over two complete turns and return the timing position then recheck the belt tension.

as above very simple
then get that k-seal out of the system i have seen on other forums of it over time if left in clogging the jiggle valves

Cheers for the replies.

Yea k-seal was just a last ditch attempt to buy me some time untill pay day after spending £100 on clutch hydraulics and in anticipation of a HG problem as there was no visible leak. Block tester showed all good and after having the under-tray off i can see it's leaking from behind the timing covers.

Yea needless to say K-seal didn't work and I have already drained, flushed and refiiled the cooling system.
