I put a K&N air filter in my freebie today and with my de-cat pipe on the transformation is fantastic. She pulls great in every gear and spins round the rev counter really fast. Ive had my douts about the car but now shes a keeper.:D :D :D :D
 
A few weeks after I put a K&N filter I lost my MAF, left the filter in palce though and since no more problems, was a little afraid getting problems again after I cleaned and oiled the filter earlier this year but things still good. Maybe it was just a coïncidence. For a petrol engine it might be a drastic difference but for me the difference was minimal to nil (same as andytd4auto says) except I don't have to buy another filter anymore as K&N goes on a lifetime. (I hope):D
 
took mine out in the end, car was awful to drive with it in.
maybe i didn't fit it back together right so was suckin too much air in:rolleyes:
 
I have really considered this for my KV6 petrol engine. My question is, ewhere is the best place to put it in? I have seen them place on the MAF sensor and place behind the drivers side headlight (UK models).

I am a little put off by the idea of mounting mine on the MAF sensor, as the air it draws in might be too warm.... any thoughts?

best place fur a K&N on a Hippoo is in its box - wot yu trying to achieve? more power, better performance ior a completely fooked engine?
 
Best to get just the replacement k&n panel filter, it works great with the original air box and this way you dont suck in any hot air like you do when you remove the airbox and just stick a filter on the end of the inlet tube.

The open K&Ns have more downsides than up IMHO. As mentioned, if they are in an area of warm air, you may end up with less power than before.

I went for a K&N replacement for the paper element, just fits into the box and literally takes seconds. I expect it to see me out....

It felt a bit livelier, but I could be imagining it.

Don't expect huge power gains and you won't be disapointed. Look upon it as one less service item.... I would guess the power gains that bigshane felt were more down to the cat replacement pipes than the filter.

For the sake of the MAF, make sure you are sparing with the oil. It shouldn't be a problem if you stick to the recommendations.

Is it a panel filter or cone?

The cones can suffer from heat soak when warm. Best performance is when they are enclosed.

The Rover 820 has an airbox suited fro this........ they are like hens teeth though

Well, being a merican I am stuck with the KV6. Land Rover figured they couldn't sell deisels in the US.

Nor the 1.8 engines as they would be considered too puney by gas guzzling americans. There was a rumour that the upgraded 1.8 (200bhp) was considered for the american market. Hence why the stronger oil rail was created.

You might want to try a Vader induction kit, They are stainless steel and they will make your car sound like Darth Vader from Star Wars. They are also sold as Taipan induction kits.....same item
 
I Fitted a similar air filter to my Freelander, i got laughed at when i asked to buy one, then there was just silence and watching in awe by the staff as they got it out of the box and saw how big it was, lol. It's called a PowerTec Induction Kit, and i have also fitted a special Air Filter Heat Deflector onto it as the engine gets rather warm, i have not lost any performance, quite the opposite, it goes like the clappers now, Woooo
