Buying any 2nd hand car brings risks. A 16yr old 2nd hand car, bigger risks. A 16yr old which was expensive to begin with , was made by Land Rover,massive risk. Not forgetting the majority of replacement parts makers think that the vehicle is still worth £80k plus, and price parts accordingly.
In summary, 16yr old , 2nd hand veh, made by a marque known for unreliability, the parts to which can still be extortionate ( wing mirror replacement glass £300+), is it a risk? Yes
Do those of us who own them, love them? Yes
Do we accept they cost money to maintain? Yes. Some reluctantly, but Yes
Do people buy one and tell us 4 weeks in how great it is. Only to get bitten in the bum the next week? Yes
Are you willing to take the risk, and keep a couple of grand aside in case you're approaching a 2nd gearbox, and other sundries? Only you know that.
I've had mine ten year now. I've gone through some expensive, and difficult, times, with her. Would I swap her for any other marque No.
