A discovery 3 came in today with the owner complaining of noisey rear brakes. I wonder how long they were noisey for when the owner decided "better get that noise checked out"

Not only has he worn the pads to the metal, he's worn the whole pad away untill the caliper is on the disc!!!!

Disco 3 has pad warning sensors which when low puts "check brake pads" on the message center, guess that doesn't apply to him!

Here you can see how much of the outer part of the disc has worn away, almost to the ventilated part in the middle. Absolutely crazy to let your brakes get this bad

Back in the early 80s, me bruvva asked me ter look at his noisy / poor FRONT brakes on his MGB. They was just like that! Then he moaned like feck because of the cost of new calipers, discs and pads.
I aint nevva done work on his cars since.

i have seen this on a few occations its normaly people who only ever buy new cars and complain about the cup holder not working correcly

I've got another one for you lot, I'll take a picture tomorrow, it's a conrod from a 1.8 freelander, it's cable tied to the handle of my tool box because I was so impressed with it.

i'll post a pic tomorrow and the story behind it. its a right corker!!!

its still got 3 other brakes hasnt it, so unless they were worn down as well then he would have been able to stop, although not brilliantly and definately not in a straight line!

jeeeez - what a dickhead - and i thought mine were bad when I changed the rear pads on sunday (only about 1mm left on pad)

it amazes me , the number of people who think they never have to do anything to their cars except put petrol in em

A couple of years back had a shop owner with a 4.2 diesel l/crusr called me up as it had come to a stop . Went out , wouldnt crank over, dipped the oil , showed ok on stick. towed in , following investigation went to drain oil nothing came out took off sump it was solid like grease, had done 88,000km without service, I wonder if he saved enough to justify the new engine.
After a few years in the trade nothing surpises you :D
