Congrats. I looked at and test drive a 2003 TD5. I was impressed at how she felt and the price was great, engine was rebuilt two years ago with limited mileage. I decided not to buy because it was a single cab and I really wanted an enclosed model.

I was very impressed with this one , its much more lively than my tdi one and should be ideal for pulling trailers with :)

I know this one has had no serious work to date and is 1 owner whom I know very well ( hes known me my full 20 years :) ) the only thing with engine rebuilds is that a lot of parts used are not genuine so may not be as good a quality in high demanding situations such as an engine

if you like it that much I personally would have had it and changed the roof :)

dr eveil - thanks I will pm the wolf now :)

This one was done with OEM parts. I am a BMW lover and had a BMW performance shop, wished it was a station wagon, would have grabbed her.

I sent another guy to look at it and when I described it he was all excited and said he would have gotten her for sure, I have to call to see if he did.

I personally would have changed the roof unless theres a reason you wanted station wagon on the logbook

sounds like a cracker of a truck how much was it? I paid 5K for mine which I thaught was a good deal?

The TD5 Landy would have worked out to 4000 pounds.

I do need a wagon for the guy in the pics and a few more like him.:D

Did you check for oil in the injector loom when you bought it?

Cam will need doing fairly soon if its not already been done.

Is there an EGR bypass fitted? if not you should buy a kit and remove the EGR system.

If you want power, get a full intercooler fitted and get a remap, You think its quick now? wait till you've done that. :D

A late model Td5 (with the later engine) is want I want as the basis for my future project: a completely rust proof (galvanised chassis, bulkhead, cappings etc) Ninety hard -top/station wageon.

The one you've got looks really nice (I love the look of a standard Ninety) and your one will look great with a bit of tidying. I like the canopy on the back too: a bit of a clean and I think it will look good if you decide to keep it.

Just don't go and chop such a nice example to bits and cut out all the arches to stick oversize wheels on! You don't need it to do serious off-roading and with a new Defender replacement coming soon, unmolested examples of the current shape may jump in value.

ginge- yeah I checked and all seems to be okay , it goes like stink at the moment so what would be wrong with the cam? planned engine upgrades are indeed a remap and intercooler to give it an edge although im not after mental power as when they explode they tend to be expencive !

landyjd- this is 2004 so would that have the later 15p engine? canopy has already been removed and sold as I need a pick up :) no plans to make any permanent mods such as cutting , will have a light bar, spots, winch and bumper from my yellow one, swinagway carrier and snorkel for some ram air into the engine not for deep wading , the yellow 200tdi will now be the serious offroader which I will hack about and play with ( while being legal) and also as a back up incase anything breaks on this one, thhe TD5 is for greenlining, towing and gernerally day to day driving as its mint inside and holds the road really well with no shakes or wobbles, it feels like a good solid truck so will not ruin it off road :)

What goes wrong with the cam?
Injector loom cheap so who cares?

Sorry should have read cam chain. RE: that point, it seems a friend of mines was an isolated case, I've just googled it and here isn't much mention of failed timing chains.

injector loom is cheap but if its got a leak it will just leak again.

When I did the loom on mine it never leaked anymore in the next 4 years I owned it, had to flush the ecu red plug once a month a couple of times to get the last of the oil out and that was it.
You are probably thinking of the oil pump chain on the early motors, the bolt came loose and it fell off destroying the engine through lack of oil pressure.
