tread looks a little soft for off roading to me.

i used general grabber AT2's on my freelander :D
yes AT2's good tyre but these are not for off road use mate
you carn't get AT for this size wheel ie 225 55 17
i will get a speare set of 16 with MT for play days ect

Makes more sense to upgrade your wheels from 17" to 15" or 16" and fit General Grabber AT's to them. I did exactly that. Gave me a lil bit of extra ground clearance and better all round traction. They're also quieter than the previous Goodyear road tyres that I had on! Yesterday, they got me out of a lane layered with clay, on a steep hill. Was pretty impressed but I soon exceeded the limitations of the Freelander when the car slid into a ditch.

As for 16" MT's, bit OTT for a Freelander. Kinda like putting monster truck wheels on a Fiesta. Well... not quite.

They will be no good for greenlaning im afraid but will give you better traction on road in the wet. uniroyal are a mid range rain performance tyre. Also note they have a directional tread pattern so if you fit one to your spare wheel then it will only fit to one side of the car. Depending on which way there fitted if they go on the other side the tread pattern will be backwards and you may as well be running on slicks! Your probably better off with an asymetrical tread pattern.
