my mate has just foned me from 30 miles away with a weird fault

its a disco 2 300tdi on an R reg

for some strange reason when he got home he turned the ignition off took the key out and the engine kept running but turned his lights off and the engine shut off ....he repeated this 3 times with the same result

this has got me exept for thinking theres damp in the relays on the drivers side or something

has anyone had this before and what did it turn out to be ....more to the point how did yer cure it :confused:

answers on a mudflap please :D:D:D

i had this problem once and once only... I was a good 100 miles away from home after swapping my light switch stalk for a working, used one.

I stalled it on the clutch/handbrake and never had the problem again (been a good 6 months now i'd say)

didn't realise they made the Disco 2 in 1997 on R plate with 300tdi engines... sounds more like a disco 1...

not this old chestnut again

in actual fact if it needs to be in perfect perspective its a disco1 facelift with a 300tdi

the short version of it is its a discovery series 1 mk2

the common thing round here its just a disco 2 ;);)

I had same problem ya could walk away with the keys in ya hand and it'd still be running. changing the light stalks worked for me.

Stop solenoid not operating ?
sounds like its operating all the time :D

yer need to find out if its loosing its supply when the ignitions off an headlights are on.
use a meter on it, or failing that, next time it wont turn off, just pull the wire off it. (on the injector pump, and no, yours dont have one johnny!:D)
now ya gonna say its a 3 wire pump aint yer!

Its opening but not closing is what I meant :p

I'd be thinking continuous power caused by a short somewhere so it int shutting when the ignition is cut however where that short be is anyones guess :p
could also be caused by something going open circuit somewhere, and that could be a **** to find too.
my bets on an open circuit rather than a short circuit at the mo :p

we'll see ;) if he keeps up working on his mates cars I might have a chance at beating him to starting the V8 :D
