Hi all

just registered here, and hope someone can help??

I bought a 53 vogue a couple of months ago, but over the last few weeks a squeak has started when turning the steering wheel.

It only starts when the rangey has been running for a few minutes, when i first use it there is no noise.

The squeak seems to be right behind the steering wheel itself - when i turn left or right its a fairly loud (squeaky hinge) type sound.

Does anyone have any ideas / also anyone from around the Hull area that knows of good independent garages?

thanks

andy

Not sure if it is the same loud squeaky hinge, but my P38 developed a huge sound at some point when turning to the left, it came out to be the metallic pipes that are connected to the steering box. At first I though of the something strange behind the steering wheel as well, but after careful check it was these pipes. The Dealer Changed them and no more sound.

hi all

thanks for the replies so far, i reckon i should introduce myself properly - based in hull - east yorkshire / first range rover i've owned - its a 53 plate 4.4 vogue in buckhingham blue with 107k, 2 previous owners with s/h.

i'm not expecting the car to be maintenance free, but hope there will be nothing too major if i get it serviced regularly etc, its only a car for weekends as i drive my van all week.

welcome fellow hullite.your squeak is an easy fix, remove the bellows, 3 screws underneath, and grease the the two worms, general purpose molybedenum is fine, you could squirt a bit of wd40 futher down, should sort it out.if it doesnt sort it , its generally just a bit of dust and should be a major issue. if you ever need diagnostics,pm me . dont be turned over by the robbing b$%£@*^s in hull :)

No chance. Check to see if the electronics behind the panel in the rear quarter are wet before it all goes pop and pray the gearbox doesn't let go, you will have to push the garage that services it to change the oil and filter, normally they cannot be bothered.

ha, its all doom and gloom! ive gone a whole 3 days without any new probs :)

Hi

Just wondering if the grease fix helped stop your squeaking?

I have the same squeak when I turn the wheel left or right, not when the telescopic part moves in or out. So keeping my fingers crossed that it's something simple and not the start of major steering problems.

My squeak sounds like it's coming from directly behind the wheel

Thanks
