I have a 1990, 110, 200 tdi. I have had it up to 80mph on a couple of occasions, I often cruise at 70mph. 60/65mph seems to have better fuel economy. I keep it well serviced, regular oil changes etc and it seems to like a good blast now and again. It has 120,000 on the clock, does not use any oil or smoke other than an initial puff of black smoke on start up which I am told is normal.

underpowered as hell...

does the job though and as long as it keeps on chugging along, i'm not too bothered.

well at least i've learned that taking my 2.5td with its lovely oil leeks out of my 90 and putting a 200 tdi won't make it go any faster because my old girl will happily do 65 .so whats the main benefit of the tdi ?

Agree its not speed but fuel economy is much better IME.

25mpg V 30mpg in 110 form is the norm.

Oh and the Tdi is tougher in use.

300Tdi... Because Parts are generally cheaper and things such as Cylinder Heads are still avaliable new.
