I'd be replying to his email and asking how he thinks that should be done - as its him asking you to do it before you take the car to him.

Personally, with the car looking to need work and Bells not being able to do it for 5 or 6 weeks, I'd be inclined to pay a few more bob and take it to your local guy who appears to know what he is talking about. If the diff or Haldex gets trashed in that 6 weeks, the bill will mount up rapidly.

I should say - I don't know a lot about the Haldex setup, but I do know those parts are very expensive and the diff at least is very prone to failure.

Pulling the fuse is the easiest. You might get an error on the dash, but that's better than the Haldex being destroyed.

My own Haldex is going to need some work, as I can feel a slight shudder when maneuvering. I suspect it's been neglected, as these things often are, so a fluid change is in order I think.

Thanks Nodge. Pulled the fuse this morning and did receive an error message on the LCD and then the traction control lights flashes constantly whilst driving. Other than that it seems fine. I took it for a good drive and there was no sign of oil leaking from that same hole after, so presume disabling the pump will shield the Haldex from potentially running dry (if it hasnt already) before the work is done.

Thanks for the thought GrumpyGel, and I understand your point. I am in a bit of a quandry as I would like to get it fixed ASAP, but also believe (from the many great reports of Bells work) that they will be the best people to service the Haldex. As I havent had the car long and dont know much about the FL2 and how it should feel when driving, I also think they will be the best people to give the car a once over and make sure everything else transmission wise is working how it should. I am hopeful that with the Haldex pump disabled it should be safe to drive until it is fixed (I dont do many miles).

Thanks to those who helped me out and gave me advice.

To close the thread, I visited Bell Engineering today, who were excellent and very accommodating.

Austen first took the car for a drive to get a feel for how everything was, and reported that in his opinion the car was driving fine and didn't appear to display any characteristic for concern of the rear diff or haldex (with the exception of the oil leak).

He then serviced the Haldex and replaced the pinion seal. He noted that the rear diff must have been changed at some point in the past, which was interesting as I have lots of service history supplied when I purchased the car, but nothing detailing any diff work.

Once completed he re-pressurized the haldex and took it for a drive to confirm everything was good.

Took approx 2 hours and £175, which I was very happy with, especially to receive his opinion that everything else relating to the transmission looked good.

Thoroughly recommend a visit to any one needing work, and I will gladly make the 4 hour round trip again if, as and when the time comes.

Regards

Craig
