Hiya,

Picked up a second hand L494 and seriously loving it. Best car I've ever driven.

I have a few Qs please:

1) InControl Secure - This was already on someones account so got dealer to remove it and add it to mine. After all said and done my expiry shows 3 year from now. Did I get lucky?

2) InControl Protect - Ditto as above

3) InControl Apps and Remote - I assume I cant get these added to the car now?

4) How does the car communicate? Does it have a built it in SIM card?

5) Can I add wifi to the car? Where would the SIM card slot be?

6) Has anyone found a solution to getting Apple CarPlay added to the car?

7) Where are the maps stored and how much to update them? Dealer said £300!!

Many Thanks in advance

It's a damn nice car. Which engine have you gone for? Tell me it's a V8 :) What did you have before?

1) Yep, you got very lucky. Don't knock it!

2) Ditto

3) I fear that, being a 2016MY, you'll have the smaller screen and I don't think updates are available. It's worth a call to the dealer to ask. It takes them 3 hours in the workshop; half an hour's work and 2 1/2 hours waiting. Try not to get charged for 3 hour's labour!

4 + 5) You can fit a SIM card to it (there's a slot under the leading edge of the front centre armrest. I wouldn't bother though, as everything else that I need works without it and I've no idea how! If you fit a SIM, you'll only get 3G; don't bother. Tether it to your phone. When you say "add Wifi", what do you have in mind exactly?

6) Not on pre '17 that I'm aware of.

7) I don't know with your age of car. Sorry!

It's getting hard to know what to say when another modern LR driver is driven away. I can't speak for BluehorizonUK, bit I run mine out of complete dedication to the marque and I'd never be able to afford another one. This one's got to last to retirement (another 9 1/2 years, which should take it to around 400,000 miles). And, if it's still working, I'll keep it going a bit longer...

We're not that different to others on here, when we're running these for love of the marque, not because we're filthy rich. If we get a newbie, why be hostile?

I visit fullfat forum, but LandyZone is brilliant for other reasons. Just please don't be d1ck5 when it comes to owners of the newer stuff (I know most of you aren't).

Thanks!

I've just had a re-read of the posts and I don't think anything said warranted a 'how do I delete' * strop.
There is one slightly blunt post and that is it. There was nothing hostile. There were several posts , attempting to be helpful. There were a couple querying the need to come on a forum , rather than avail oneself to JLR customer service, such as it is, for a 3yr old, recently purchased vehicle, and a couple about people buying an expensive, for it's class vehicle , but immediately not wanting to pay the costs that go with it.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
No-one was a Richard and no-one chased him off. I have seen much, much, worse thrown at people, including ejoke owners, who have laughed it off. I think the guy in India was the stand out one :D

* Asking 'how do I delete' is a strop and is attention seeking. If you don't like a website/forum just don't sign on again, no need to tell everyone you're going. Simples

Perhaps it has got to the stage where we need a section for straight answers no banter no introductions no sneering or jeering. Oh sorry that’s a stealer.

Thank you so much for your answers. Very Helpful.

Apologies to everyone, I hadn't realised this forum was aimed more at older cars than the new ones. It says its the UK's most popular forum so assumed it was for all ages of cars. Will try and remember for future (this car will be a classic soon......lol)

It's pretty unlikely that any modern Range Rover will last long enough to become a classic, the electronics are so poor that they will become unrepairable,:(

It is the most popular and it is for all. BUT, at 3yr old and just bought , it just seems a bit silly asking here ( don't get upset ;) :D ) and we can't understand why you don't get your money's worth and make the stealer do their job. They have after sales teams , who get paid to help with this stuff.
In the main, we have built knowledge of vehicles that start appearing around 4yr old. Which is right about when JLR consider a vehicle 'old', and become uninterested. So no-one was really taking a dig, ( I think) we were just trying to say 'get back to JLR and stamp your feet, until they give you the customer service you have just paid for."
Thennnnnnn.......... come back and tell us the answers :D. That way in a year when a 2016 appears , because JLR aren't interested, you, and the rest of us, can throw some banter their way, and answer the query ;)

This forum has fallen behind in regards to "keeping up".

RangeRover.net is a better place regarding the Modern RR.

FFRR.com is another..

Keep at it..

I think some of us are trying to keep up with newer vehicles . But it doesnt help when even the older L322s are looked upon as some type of black magic.
If those , who benefit from the decades of knowledge that is now around for older , less electrickery models , played nicely with those stumbling through, trying to find answers to the vehicles from the last 20yrs, this site would be unrivalled, and we wouldn't have to recommend other sites.
All Range Rovers were the new kid on the block at some point. I'm sure there must be some who remember the struggles to keep up when the P38 came out. Yet here we are.
It doesn't pay to be a dinosaur ;)
