You get a little plastic adjuster that fits n the back, there are 3 settings on a slide to get near enough then use the adjuster till the revs look right. That's close enough for me!

The bugger stopped working today so there must be a bad connection somewhere.

Durite do a very high quality one which is waterproof. It's got nice white led backlighting. I have one in mine - it's the poshest thing in my beast :) I highly recommend it. It's very easy to fit. I wish I had bought the marine versions of the other gauges now, they are very high quality. I'll nip out and do a photo of mine.

It has a screw in back so that you can adjust it for accuracy. I set mine using a cheap handheld digital tachometer.

Pics, both taken in the dark. One with flash, one without. Rev counter circled in red. Not best photos, but gives you an idea.

I had a rev counter fitted a few months ago. I had it done at an autoelectrician and got my dash tidied up at the same time (I posted some pics on here at the time).

My alternator didn't have the w terminal fitted so the autoelectrician had to do that at the same time.
Unfortunately, the tachometer was fairly expensive: it was the only one I could find in NZ that was the correct diameter for the spare place in my dash. It goes up to 4000rpm off the top of my head, which is plenty for a big old diesel.
