Hi,

Ive just been offered a N reg disco (I assume ser1) 2.5 tdi (have been told its a 300 ser)

Its silly money, but Ive got a 1970 ser3 on its way and I dont know if its going to be a money pit or a cheep run around for 12 months and a possible engine and diff doner for the ser 3 when thats back on the road?

Never had a disco and havnt a clue about them...... HELP !

there's about £1k worth of saleable parts if you scrap it and sell everything. plus any extra's they've fitted.

What sort of monjey are they asking??

the usual things to check are rust rust and more rust. there isn't a single area of them that doesn't rust. inner wings rear wheel arches, sills, body mounts, headlight boxes, battery tray, floor (all of it not just Bootfloor.) rear side panel where the roof joins. rear body under plastic cover strip. Chassis at tiedown attachment points. etc etc

well its £400 with close to a years worth of ticket.

I hear it needs to work doing to the battery tray and maybe a new battery. I hear its had a full live and is no oil painting but im no too worried about that, My ser 3 has just gone nato green and I still have some paint and a roller

Just dont want to get involved in a big project with the SWB on its way (as soon as I can get it moved 120 miles to Kent lol)

check for rust then and don't let an MOT lull yu into a false sense of security my R reg disco had 5months mot and it was rotten.

Frankly for that price and a full ticket I'd probably run it a year then flog it on ebay and get the money back a month or so before the next MOT is due.

Unless, having done the above, you find you actually like it or it's agreat engine/gearbox/whatever ...

Not if it's a rot box or has a knackered engine & gearbox.. then it's worth £200 as scrap weight.

Though the engine/gearbox & transfer box were pretty reasonable. In fact engine went in my old disco, transfer box is in my current 300tdi disco. & gearbox is still sitting under a tarp.

just had a text, windscreen wipers not working and there is a slight tapping noise??? its a young lady selling the landy so not sure of her definition of "tapping" ?

I need to have a look myself I guess (not that i would know any more then her?)
