Gems 4.6. I've got a ticking tappet/follower, (nearside) can you remove the rocker cover without removing the plenum? Ideally need to check what's happening while it's running.
TIA

I don't think it is I am afraid, the gap under the the throttle housing is minimal and won't allow the cover to rotate/slide off the rockers.

I would think you wouldn't need to undo all the linkages and coolant pipes, just remove the plenum bolts, lift up slightly and then you can rotate and slide the rocker cover off over the rockers.

Ticking and tapping noise can also be a blowing exhaust manifold gasket, so check that too.

Didn't we have a member with a ticking tappet that turned out to actually be a broken rocker? Whatever, it was a simple and cheap fix :)

Thanks for your thoughts gentlemen, it's definitely a mechanical tick - I've had a stethoscope on it and it's towards the rear of the bank. Not a manifold blow. Just spent the afternoon grovelling under the beast replacing the exhaust, off to soak in a hot bath, it'll probably take a few days before I'm enthused enough to start spannering again . . .
