Hello again, Just a question, now i have gears and some power again i took the old girl ( 96 P38 diesel manual ) for a run very pleased now it going as it should,,,, however i did notice on fast bends (ie, 70plus) it feels like it wants to toppel over feels very top heavy ( its nice to be able to go that fast) as ive not had air suss before i dont know if this is normal,,, would new shocks or new bushes help. The body doesnt roll much but the steering is verytwitchy on fast bends ,, Thanks Tom
 
Very true but it corners worse than my 110 at the same speed and same bend,,, feels like im on ice and just wants to go straight, as you so rightly say it could well be me a fault,,,but i would think that a 96 range rover should hold the road as good or better then a 91 110 with roofrack and 4 spares on top

What is your tyre pressure like, 28 psi front and 36 psi back. Even if the fronts are slightly too hard my steering is twichy. Its spot on with these pressures.

70mph on bends???? Dude... seriously, you need to slow waaaaay down mate, Its not saying it cant handle it, as it can, but its not designed to be doing that, lol.! The P38 has outstanding power yes, ok the petrol has more umph than the diesel, but the diesel still has a bit ah poke in the thing & cornering aint on the list im affraid mate. the fender may handle differently, as would a gaylander.. take ya time, slow down, & enjoy all the comforts your pride & joy is offering you.
 
Is your suspension settling down to the high speed setting once you're over 50 for a while?
 
Same road, same speed, I`d agree with you it should go round better than a 110 with spares on the roof. If you`ve still got the original shockers on they1ll likely be past it by now. IF they need replacing up-rated shockswill stiffen the ride up, (less "wallowy"), but t will be noticably less smooth on the bumps so common on ordinary roads now.
Try to find someone near you with a Rangie so you can swop cars for a half hour, compare like for like. And tis surprising what we all get used to as things slowly deteriorate and we get used to it...
 
My previous answer didn`t properly address symptoms of "wanting to go in a straight line". Think this reply does tho`.
If the VC is seized it could well push the car in a straight line rather than allow it to corner properly. Just like driving your 110 with dif-lock in. There should be other symptoms apparent tho`. Any excessive or uneven tyre wear? Especially front. Any squealing or churriping noises on dry roads or crossing white lines?
If in any doubt take a half hour to take off the front prop, and drive your "test route", all ok then problem found. If no difference half hour lost, but summat eliminated.
 
Hello GT. The
vc is fine only just had the box apart ( selector prob) all is as it should be, Im thinking the shocks,, only had the car 3 weeks and 2 of them were spent with its gears on the bench, just been grubbing around under it and shocks look old and theres a leak on the front right,,, so the other 3 cant be far behind,,,, steering damper leaking too..... So , weak right hand side = body roll ,,,,,,, no damping on steering = twitchy ,,,,, Yes ?
 
agree with gtland. This definitely does not sound right. I have had 2 Discos in the past & my P38 DSE is totally different in corners. Much faster & more stable & tracks bends well, not that different from many saloon cars and even better than some. It sound as though some other folk here also have ones that don't handle, perhaps I'm just lucky. Yes it's over 2 tons so you dont want to swerve around! but driven sensibly fast corners are no problem. Mine certainly does not try to go straight on even at 90+ (on a private track of course). :rolleyes:
 
Hi Data, EAS ? Softwear ? i got a hammer and a tape measure... Staning still with ebgine running all 4 wheel arches within 3mm of each other so i would think ride hight is ok, air suss seems to work well shows level road below 50 ish and after a few seconds above 50 changes to m/w light,,, on rough gound it jacks up as it should,, i would think its all ok,,,
 
Well just sold my soul to the devil and ordered 4 shocks and a steering damper,,,, 4 discs and full set of pads, set of glow plugs and a fluffy dice

Just because it's level does not mean that the previous owner has not upped the heights, measure it and compare with the figures provided by irishrover. Do a search for them.
