Yes, finally, we are upgrading the forum software that LandyZone is running on.

On Monday July 20th LandyZone will be taken down in the morning and converted to XenForo, a modern forum software package that is a huge upgrade over our current outdated vBulletin installation.

LandyZone will be down all day and maybe into the evening. I'm really hoping it doesn't take that long though.

The new software is fully responsive, which called for a total redesign of the site. This means it works as well on mobile phones and tablets as it does on your computer. No more tapatalk required!

A few of us have been working on the new system for a while now, and whilst we hope to have got most of the bugs out of the way, I'm sure with such a big change we will have problems. When the site comes back up please bear with us!

Community, Social Groups will not make it into the new site, so if you have any content in that area that you would like to save, now is the time.

can i finally get a  ? and can we rename some of them so you don't need to stick : beer2: when there is only one beer emoticon.. y'know the important stuffins :D

:attention::whoosh::doh:

It'll look a little different and take a little getting use to but it's much simpler to use and without the need for 3rd party sites to post pics videos etc. even little things like multi quoting that took me years to work out need no explanation.

I'll have to do some work I guess
Never used third party sites to post photo's:confused:

I will wait and see, but every site I use from the French tax office to 3 banks and 2 other forums that have upgraded have been a PITA, loads of new bells and whistles none of which are of any interest and much less user friendly. I have given up with the tax office and gone back to paper and left the forums in question.
New is not always better, image seems to be more important than substance.

The substance on LZ is the members posts and personally I'm looking forwards to a search function that can cope with the 3.3 million in the archives.

Yes there's some bells and whistles that folk can choose to use or not but the important stuff remains.

Those bits which won't import over to the new host...........can we request certain other things not to get imported inorl?

Like Thor.....?:D

So we aren't changing things for the sake of changing things, we are doing it out of necessity. We are currently running 6 year old software, which isn't compatible with the latest secure updates that we need to do to the server.

Functionally everything will be better. The speed of the forum should be improved, the search will be improved and lots of other little things. Security will also be increased(for those in the know, everything will be https).

I understand change is a bitch, and we all hate change, but we have got to go through this. I really hope if you don't like the new system, you at least give it a chance and learn it's new ways.

LandyZone is only LandyZone thanks to it's members, and that is not being changed.

yeah, if they are beefing up the search with elasticsearch/lucene i'm guessing they are beefing the hardware.

maybe it'll sort out the 2am downtime :D

Nah. The only way of changing that is to change the time of Rosie's lunch break or stick a different hamster in the wheel while she's gnawing. :D:D:D
