Hi All,
New RR 4.4 v8 owner. Bought my Vogue with supercharged facelift in October 08. Had gas conversion with a few minor problems but all sorted now except it always switches back to petrol when overtaking/kickdown. Thats another issue but gas people have tinkered with it and no better, any thoughts? Couple of things with the car at the moment, i noticed the gearchanges were not as smooth as they were and i'd lost a bit of oil. local garage noticed breather pipes cracked at back of engine and replaced. This didn't rectify the juddery gear change but also around this time i noticed a droning type of noise at about 1500/2000rpm 30-40mph mainly in higher gears when kinda feathering the throttle. It progressivly got worse and took in into local LANDY dealer who were convinced it was the diff as it hadn't had the recall. Picked it up yesterday in anticipation of driving a smooth noise free rangie again and as soon as i drove it out there it was. Took it back and one of the chaps took it out with me. They haven't got a clue what it is and suggested i drive it for a couple of weeks to see if it goes away. I know it won't do that. He thought it might be 2 seperaqte problems to do with the torque converter and/or gearbox. The noise usually comes in around 1500/2000rpm in higher gears not noticable in lower gears so much. The judder at slow speed from 1 to 2 is very noticable, but generally the gear changes are not very smooth. Under demand the car seems to drive ok. Anyone had a similar proble? Any ideas? Help to identify problem would be appreciated as so far Landrover haven't a clue.

Thanks

Neil

check history to see if its had the front prop done? think its that model that didnt have a uv joint in and should have?????

also make sure you contact lr and see if they can tell you what warranty/recalls its had and needs!

Hi,

read your comments with interest. I have a 2002 RR diesel HSE. Just before Christmas i experienced the exact same problems as you have outlined. A judder at around 40-45mph, a dull droning noise and a slight loss of power resulting in the car hunting for gears.

I took my car to an independent Automatic transmission specialist after consulting with Mansfield 4x4.

To cut a long story short the torque convertor on my gearbox was on its way out. I didnt catch mine in time and it cost me a small fortune. My advice would be to seek advice from an ATS specialist and not your landy dealer.

Not massively positive news but i hope this helps.

Hi Guys, Thanks for your input. It's a pig to drive at the moment. Diff recall just been done and was told upgrade UV done as well. Dealer suggested that it could be torque converter on its way out so to hear that mattj has had the same problem is probably a good place to start. Will cons with indi ATS specialist as well.

Anyone got a good ATS specialist to recomend in the North west?

Many thanks

Neil

I had the same problem and this post gave me a lot of help and information.
I found it happened when maintaining speed, ut ok when excelarating or slowing down and only when the gearbox was warm.
I had my car in to a couple of LR specialists with no joy, in the end I took it to Selector Gearboxes in Liverpool and they agreed with the above and said it could be a bearing on its way out, so decided to do an oil and filter change and check for metal debris, which cured the noise, and I've been driving it for 6 months now with no repeat of the issues
At approx £300 I fully recommend get it done at your local gearbox specialist, before it costs you a new gearbox (sorry if it already has cost you a lot more than it cost me)

Hi ,I just bought a 2004 vogue with this very problem, the judder/vibration only lasts a split second then it's gone?? Is it easy to check out levels of oil/ service gearbox/as I'm pretty new to these, and I don't have any manuals/handbooks etc, etc, any help or does anyone know of someone good in s.wales area (uk)thanks

Thanks again you guys, mega big help and I will check all advice given, also help needed again!on the soft bull bar already fitted has two spots fitted(original LR I was told) they are in need of internal cleaning ? I can see on either side of lights are a few screws to take front glass and grid protector off,but it's very tight!!ideally better if I can remove whole spot, but can only see a "cog "like wheel on very top with two holes and I never seen this type fixing before?? Any help on what tool I may need,or how to remove??merry crimbo and happy new year to you all!!all the best, and yet again thanks!!!!

you need a bigger vaporiser, or another added...i run 3..
AND OR you need bigger lpg pipe from tank/s to vaporiser..i run 3 tanks..each has its own 8mm NOT 6mm to the vaporisers..
the outputs of each vaporiser are all teed using 10mm lpg pipe to injector rails..the rails are piped up in a "ring" circuit..

without the above i have the same problem..

Yes,but vehicle is running and I'd like to get all the little thing sorted out in the mean time, you all know what it's like when you purchase your dream car,any help off anyone about lights????

You may have to remove the Bullbar and unbolt the spots from underneath it...

I'll have a dig around as I am sure I have the fitting instructions for the spots in RAVE....

Sounds very much like the torque converter or hopefully the oil leak could be the gearbox sump gasket which lowers the oil level and then oil pressure that actuates the lock up clutch, changing the oil and filter worked for saint but not for me, mine was a new torque converter amongst other things.....

if you have a month you could read the following post, i have just put a little update on the end of it
