Just about had enough, had new clutch fitted yesterday (£550) AS pins had snapped (£1.50), great now spent all redundancy, 4 brand new kumhos on 19" wheels, fuel pump timed properly (£120) so now starts hot or cold instantly, then another £120 when missus snapped gearlever of, another fackin pin...anyway belt tensioners now seized so need to spend some more money....anyone want to swap for basic defender?....car is in extremly good condition, rhinestone leather etc etc, new compressor etc etc drives faultlessly and does 525 miles to a tank...i no i'm mad to want rid but i cant afford to keep:( comes with private plate, harmon kardon + Alpine stereo with ipod cable, cannot stress how tidy it is, factory tinted windows, no warning lights on dashboard (or an bulbs removed!) car goes up instantly when started, no air leaks. Does not smoke at all, looks lovely, live in SHEFFIELD, going to garage friday for new tensioner, then i'll post in proper section...has traction control on all 4 wheels...

i know, my original v8 disco 1 lpg still going strong after i sold for 700 3 years ago and upgraded to disco 2 on lpg, went thru 2 engines but did 29000 in 1 year....problem with p38's is that they (mine) keep going wrong....i'm about as usefull a mechanic as a goldfish and hence why i'm always skint! Much as i hate their looks and way they drive i'm going to get a landcruiser 4.7 and lpg it.....bland and soul less and you could never "love" it, but they dont go wrong, ex wife still driving around on old 89 diesely one....i'v only had my latest p38 3 weeks and i'v spent £780!! (picked up from north scotland, drove 410 miles home faultlessly)
 
P38's do seem to go wrong a lot thats sure on the evidence of this forum, but you still see a lot driving around, so they can't all be broken all the time!

you have cracked it really put the new tensioner on and run it you will see it has settled down stick with it
 
You've nearly sorted it so keep in there mate,and when done enjoy. If you can keep on top of it mechanically,it'll be ok,their not as bad as there made out to be. You cant count the tyres cos you would of had to buy them anyway,I'm assuming they were crap anyway if you've only had it 3 weeks.The rest is just life but like i said your nearly there so just stick with it and believe me defenders have their own problems,rotten chassis's,rotten bulkheads and extremely basic compaired to the p38
 
If you do decide to sell can you let me know we are just down the road and have been hunting down the elusive lesser spotted diesel RR for weeks
 
it will be for sale on monday, 2 owners from new, 2000 model, so better electrics and tc on all 4 wheels, ivory leather with vogue steering wheel, harmon kardon stereo, sounds superb, mot nov. 2011, tax end feb, 133,000, looks great, 19" range rover sport alloys with brand new kumho tyres....Air suspension fully working, goes up as soon as you start car, all doors lock from remote, all warning lights go out. Drives very well, handles beautifully and looks gorgeous, unfortunately i;m now in debt after latest garage bill and much as i'd love to keep her i cant afford to....starts instantly hot or cold, no smoke.private plate too.....will be on e-bay and gumtree monday, but it wont be cheap as it really is in amazing condition....never ever towed, i'v just had a very rusty e-bay towbar fitted so i could tow my trailer back from france but i never made it. BRoke down in dover, snapped clutch pins..
 
right its 1999, but year 2000 model so better electrics and tc on all 4 wheels, ivory heated leather and leather vogue steering wheel, mot nov 2011, tax end feb, 2 owners, starts instantly hot or cold, dse so all the toys, factory tinted windows, 19" range rover sport alloys with BRAND NEW kumho's tyres. Harmon Kaardon stereo, sounds superb, goes up instantly when started, masses of new parts..Unfortunately i'm now in debt and much as i'd like too keep it, i cant, had to miss payment to x wife this month and she wasn't very happy (didnt tell her why!!!) Will be on ebay and gumtree monday but not for peanuts, as you will not find a better looking one in such good condition, private plate too
