I disagree.
I think the modern Landcruiser is trying to compete with Discovery, not Defender.

seriously?I disagree.

The landcruiser has always been a stronger tougher more powerful (Rover V8 excepted) vehicle than the land rover ever since they came along. I agree someone's wrecked LR thoughnot going to comment at this point - too much whiskey
but WTF yes the ROW land cruiser is the dogs, but, they got there place in the market cos BL who owned LR didnt value what they had.
right HIc. off to bed

Yes, seriously - this is a UK landcruiser
their chassis lasts longer than LR ones in the same conditions. They were built to last far better than a LR, and they do. Obviously the bodies rust, but they are also stronger. There is more than rust behind a vehicles longevity. What about axle/gearbox/motor strength? All big weaknesses on LRs. If you take the right steps to prevent rust initially what's the problem? Yes if you live by the sea or a small island all steel components in a car will urst, LR chassis especially. Your example is incredibly limited. For a start a 40 sries 'cruiser would have a hell of headstart on a disco - they stopped making them in 1982!frikin rust buckets.
Like I said great when they are new but they just dont last.
I would love a Totota FJ40, there were lots of them on the island and on the out islands, Now there are NONE! not one still on the road.
Not many Land rover Defenders on the island but there are lots of Discos, all of them old and they keep going and going.
very very ture mate!:welcome2:so i should put up with second rate products, riddled with faults and a dealer network that isn't worth a ****, just so i can feel good about being british. get real m8, patriotism means **** all these days.
and what does "buy british beef" in the back of a L200 have to do with anything. how do you know they don't buy british beef?
A few years ago the bahamas government hired a company to re-do the runway at the international airport.
The company brought in a few of the FJ70's, pickups and 4 doors.
When they were done the sold them off , I tried to get one but didnt.
They are all done, finished, parked at the dump. NONE on the road.
I agree the engines and powertrains are wonderful, but what good are they if they fall apart AND you better carry your land papers when its time to get a brake pad or filter.
Parts are soooooo easy to get for my Defender and cheap!
Justread the whole thread and it makes me laugh a bit. All the comments abouyt British is crap is just crap. Most of the innovation in the world is British. What we don't have is the nouse to back ourselves financially to keep it there. Instead we (read succesive governments) give it away dirt cheap to the opposition - wherever and whomever they are because we (governments again) can't be arsed to support British engineering. As a British Engineer (mechanical type) I know that we are the best engineers in the world, but the bas***ds at the top can't or won't see that and would prefer to make money from banking, 'cos it;s cheaper than supporting engineering. I remember the 70s when strikes were more common than workdays at BL and so on, but that was 30-odd years ago and now we don't have strikes like that, probably for a couple of reasons, not least because the bloody government has made it almost impossible to strike legally! There has been some serious ranting going on here and that's fine, everyone has the right to moan and rant, me included, but forget the who makes the best 4x4 (Land Rover obviously) and get some action going to make Br
itish goods head back to the top. Cheers, end of rant (for now).
Hear hear,
Speaking as another very proud British Engineer working for a British owned Global vehicle manufacturer, I have loved driving Landies and Rangies over the last 20 odd years (and have owned several slitty 4x4's too).
But let's be honest tho, Land Rover have made both some great and some **** poor designs (no need to name them). Likewise the Japs have built some superb motors, and some complete nails.
I think its the Yank 4x4's that we should avoid .
y o u r f u c k 'dAnyway... back to buying British Beef- how do you spell Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease??
