Ah, ok.

I have already dinitroled the underneath but have a spray can of chassis wax left, so will do it again when I can get underneath it all.

The footwells are a bit rusty, but nothing a bit of fertan and paint can't fix.

I am going to try to make my own extended inner wheel arches for the front, thinking of using some bucket and some plastic rivets. Would like the Gwyn Lewis ones, but can't stretch to mud guards yet.
 
Is Fertran an abbreviation for ferris transformer or similar? Is it milky white stuff? I use Aquasteel, which sounds as though it does the same job.
Are wheel arches that expensive?

I reckon I can make some. Sarah (my partner) has just told me she has some load bed liner at work which sounds like it will be perfect.

Fertan is that kind of stuff, but isn't milky white, it is brown. I actually got sent some of the other stuff by someone on ebay by mistake, and they never replied when I tried to send it back, so I will see how it compares.

No, I do not have the skills for outer wheel arches. At all!

This pallet of load bed liner that Sarah can get me sounds perfect. I'll make a few of them if it works out successfully. Also want to try and do something to stop stones making such a noise when they hit the rear wheel arches.

Lining with ally-foam-ally composite panels works pretty well, but it isn't cheap. Could just rivet some conveyor belt rubber to the inside of the wheel arches/boxes with some surplus so it hangs and isn't coupled.

Obvious problems if you plan on going off-road. Best to make it de-mountable so you get in and give it a good clean out from time to time.

Todays update, spent a generally dirty and unrewarding day wire brushing and painting a load of parts, inc the axle. The old chassis has gone, so that is a nice bit of space in my shed.

I forgot the first part of the axle rebuild (the oil seal) so couldn't do that. Hopefully it will come tomorrow
 
That all looks very familiar, even down to the corrugated card :D

The wire brushing and cleaning isn't fun, but I enjoyed putting the paint on.

I have been using a wire brush on a grinder which makes it quicker. Though when my partner came up to bring me a cup of tea apparently I had one of the pieces of wire from the grinder embedded in my face :eek:

I don't really like painting, I spend ages on the prep and then rush the painting bit as I get impatient.

The only bits I have to prep now are the inner wings, calipers and finish off painting a few things. Hopefully I can then clean the floor of my shed and not be filthy all of the time.
 
Not had much time to work on the 90 lately, though I need to crack on as my stepdad wants the shed back soon.

Went to the LRO show on Sat, got myself a Mantec snorkel and a flat dog roof rack to fit. Was an interesting journey home:

Yesterday I managed to get the front axles pretty much finished. I had a problem where whenever I did the bottom bolts for the swivel to the correct torque they sheared off, so they are tight, but not 78NM tight.

Got to paint the calipers and refit, but want the axles on ASAP so I can move the chassis around.

The guy who I have borrowed the engine lift off has taken it back, so I'll have to do all of the little jobs until I get it back.

Just changed mine already as they are rusty as hell
was a pain in the arse to do but glad i didd it before its back on the road

Good point, will do it tonight. Will prob leave them in situ though as its full of grease
 
Front axle is on!!! Actually feel like I have done something now.

Couple of questions though

1) does anyone know where I can get fuel filler pipe from, quite a long piece
2) in the pics, you can see the filler and return pipes coming out of the side of the chassis, any ideas how I get the filler pipe back to the side filler, the way I see it it is either going to get in the way of the wheel, or the bump stops
 
Got some decent stuff done this afternoon, got the gearbox off and have started changing the clutch. Sadly the clutch is a virtually new ap one, so needn't have bothered. Oh well, may as well do it now.

Assuming that I can find an engine hoist I may get the engine in this weekend.

A question. Will a heavy duty ratchet strap lift the engine?

I used a green 5t rated tree strop to lift a TD5.
