By standard jack are we talking the bottle jack that unscrews? I wouldnt use it to jack up in the garage but for a flat by the side of the road it's quite good, slow granted, but it starts low so you can deffo get it under and it has the long T bar so you don't have to put yourself at risk whilst changing the wheel. With a plank underneath its ok on softish ground to.
