your looking at £1900 for a car with a years mot... forget the garage warrentee.... look up sale of goods and how it applies to garages... trading standards will tell you the garage has to repair anything mechanical for 6 months.... if you find its a rust heap next week with a dodgy mot take it back and demand your dosh back... at worst it will go to small claims court and you can claim costs aswell ... bit of hassel but doable. 12 months time it may need couple of hundred on welding to get mot pass....
theres going to be the same rust issue with any d1.... the alternative is buy one sub 1k and know for certain youll be welding for next mot... if you buy from a private seller its as seen no warentee whatsover.... your dosh your choice
if you spend more on a d2 to hopefully avoid rust you start to get into dodgy electtrickery... which can be even more hassle
ive got a h reg 200tdi came of ebay 5 years ago.... has needed some welding on cills and rear seatbelt mounting for mot... but mechanically nothing major has gone wrong.... probably costs a couple of hundred a year to keep it going and virtually zero depreciation.
thanks mate
a mate recently spent 4k odd on a newer range rover, looked the business...literly a week later had a big electrical issue come up...i dont know the ins and outs, but he got rid of it ,lost a grand on it
see...a couple of ton a year in welding, isnt major issue really, if the engines good, if theres no money needing spending on exterior/paint/panel work, or interior , lookm at the pros in my previous post there, theres a lot of plus points to think of here
the driving expirience if i drive this one around, will be better than a crappyer looking inside and out,but non rusty one..you say theres rust issues with any d1 sooner or later , im trying to avoid "a lot of rust issues/total rotter" but light bits here n there, arnt a major thing, will be a better more enjoyable driving expirience over a shabby inside and out but non rusty no mod con one, wont it ??
ive taken everything on board from everyone , and this is the plan...
its snowing quite bad here now and laying thick, so tomorrow if my mate cant come coz of the snow,il ring round other mates see if any mechanic mates etc are snowed off from work , and can take me over there and look it right over.. if not when the bloke rings n says its ready...il say im snowed in and stuck at my birds in so and so miles away, or if no relent i might even be snowed in anyway, and can then sort something for friday/saturday, hes got my deposit we done the deal...its not gonna go anywhere ,and he cant fault me for being snowed in can he ...then il go with someone and get it checked right over and under , so the snows taken the heat/rush aspect off abit with him having my deposit
so, il see what happens and in the morning im up and at em,il write everything down what needs to be checked out ,and will only go armed with someone who can have a good proper look whilst i stand back..then give me a a knowlegable proper verdict
and being such a nice exterior, and interior, engine and all the mod cons etc...in 2,3 years and i look after it...its still going to look nice and have sell on appeal , i wont loose mega amounts will i ? 2,3 years driving it and cple ton of welding for every mot...or a 1 off £500 get it all sorted right out welding session next mot time, and the rest of the car all being sweet still....isnt a major issue for me
il see what the verdict is once proper looked over, il go with what a proffesional informed man tells me...yes buy it its a goodun, or no walk away the boys on there were right...coz il have a good chat with him about all the thoughts on here etc ,and ideally get him to have a read through this !!
keep the thoughts comming, as i do really appriciate it all and soak it up, and look forward to being around her for the long term and gaining a lot of knowlege and enjoying ownership of one !
cheers
