Well some of you will have read my posts over the time i've been here and the recent ones. I've always had a misfire and couldn't cure it. Recently my V8 over heated and as of thursday it was impossible to drive more than 2 miles without the temp guage shooting into the red.

I did a compression test and one cylinder was low. Also the filler cap was full of mayo so i realised the head gasket had probably gone.

A few months ago someone posted here that their head gasket had blown and i told them to get out there and fix it.....so i took my own advice,

Well this is where i'm upto tonight.

Took my 7 hours including a few teips to Halfords and coffee breaks.

Looks like fun!

You gonna do timing chain and check camshaft while you're in there?

How many exhaust manifold bolts did ya shear? lol.

Good luck.

The manifold bolts all came out fine.....when i say fine i don't have any skin left on my fingers but they all came out in one piece. The right manifold is a pain in the arse as i didn't want to remove the steering intermediate shaft. I'm not going to do anything else as i'm going to sell it soon anyway, she wants a car and i'm going to get a new motor bike.

Sounds like a plan.

I remember having a bike, a really nice ZZR1200 - wrote the bugger off though, it happens I guess. So no plans for another Rangie then?

Well i have an R1 at the minute but i want something like a bandit 1200 to "play" on. I test rode one last weekend and although i thought it was quite sluggish (remember i ride an R1) it still gave me a massive grin and was so easy to ride it was like going back to basics. The R1 you have to think about every movement you make as it reacts so quick you can be sat on the floor if you sneeze!

I've just looked at parkers prices and my car has lost £2000 in 6 months!!!!!

oh boy, my temp guage was hitting the roof this morning, i had a cold sweat come over me as i opened up the bonnet, much to my relief i found the top hose had split and poured coolant everywhere!.

Luckily my mate had a spare and now the beast is running as good as ever, with the temp guage bang slap in the middle and no knocking noises from upfront !.

Keep the piccies coming please mate, you never know when we might need to refer to them !.

ok i will do i was going to do a "how to" so if people in the future want to tackle it them selves they can follow it.

For now though heres a pic of my other beast

but........that only has two wheels.......and wheres the heated seats, cruise control, arm rests and mostly where do you put the lpg tank????

but........that only has two wheels.......and wheres the heated seats, cruise control, arm rests and mostly where do you put the lpg tank????

But it doesn't brake everytime i ride it and at the moment thats the only form of transport i have, could really do with heated grips though i was bloody freezing going to work this morning

Well got the heads back this afternoon and the bloke said there was a small dip next to the water jacket which coincides with the burn on the head gasket although its only a slight scorch.

I think it comes from when i changed the coolant, i really struggled to get the air lock out and the temp went into the red very briefly (wife was watching the guage and turned it off) I think this was enough to warp the head slightly and cause the gasket to have a blow through.

Well this time i plan to keep my LPG pipes lower than the expansion tank and fill every house i can before i even start the engine.

Will post pics up of the rebuild tomorrow (assuming the bloody new gaskets arrive)

so did you get the heads skimmed? how much did h take of ya..

I had heard that it wasn't worth skimming these as the tolerances in them were enough to just wack them back on with a decent gasket... is that not the case?

Hi yeah i got the heads skimmed he took 4 thou off them. Cost £25 per head.

I got the gaskets at 11am yesterday and finally stopped at 1am this morning as i was starting to see things i was so tired lol

Its a pain in the arse having lpg as the rave CD doesn't have it so the rave CD says fit this fit that then you realise you should have fitted something from the lpg system first so you have to take everything back off grrrrrrr.

Any way i think about 3 more hours then some final checking and double checking of everything (connectors and plugs etc) then i'll be ready to start her up and franticly try and get rid off all the air in the coolant!!!
