the fuel tank on my 86 defender 90 was leaking like a big leaky thing. so i managed with brute force and quite alot of ignorance to remove it from underneath.

however i cant get the new tank in from underneath:doh: how the flippin heck do the tanks fit back in its the twin hole type that fits under the drivers seat.

From what I remember you put the front in first then lift the back in. Cant remember whether it was a bit fiddly though. SOmething tells me it needs to go in at an odd angle though?

Its the same tank as what came out:/ Have heard rumours of having to take the sill off. If this is the case....how easy a job is it?!

It gets 1 spanner of difficulty out of 5 in Haynes Manual.... just reading it

Sills just unbolt....the front bolts are a bit fiddly to get into though. Think theres 4 or 5 bolts.

You should be able to right click on pic and save to your PC then enlarge a bit.... side mounted tank

When my mate swapped his tank on his 90 he had loads of trouble getting it on. My method, which worked first time, was to lie under the side of the 90, put the tank on me belly and push it home, does need one end in first but can't remember which.
