Tell ya what, Hippo sounds so much better. There were some rattles and squecks from the engine but I just took it as being the result of diect injection. Not any more, it sounds so much better. It handles better too.

Had a look underneath today. New lower arm fitted, which isn't a surprise. Annoying though as I had changed that last year. as I said. Haven't hammered the thing so its very annoying that joint had packed up again.

I'm happy and I think its worth it.

So whats the guesses on the bill then?

MOT.
Lower arm replaced.
Bleed off pipe replaced.
Two timing belts replaced.
Idler and tensioner replaced.

Make sure you let us know.

I have had mine now for over a month, is it worth popping it in to Steve for a look? I dont know much about cars, but everything sounds fine and feels very responsive, has come with full dealer service history. Am I tempting fate by taking it in? I suppose its more for a piece of mind.

Well, the envelope dropped on the doormat this morning.

Now I was begining to wonder...... Had they forgotten me? Had they lost my address? Was it a Christmas present from Joyces to me? :D:D:D

Sadly not. There was the bill.

£630 :faint2:

No wish to be smug (or tempt fate) but my 1.8 just passed MOT without comment for second year. I tend to fix or get things fixed as they occur which reduces shocks at MOT time. Was also told that the VCU was good for another year. mines done 86k miles and I do around 10k per year. My HDC light comes on sometimes and has been suggested is a can bus issue but I cant justify further investigation. it's a 2001 and seems that from this model year they were better?

Well, its that time yet again. Hippo goes into Joyces tomorrow for its MOT. Slight job to do is to replace the rear diff's front mount which is totally shot. I could have done it meself I spose but Joyce's have done me a favour recently so I feel a little obliged, especially as he spotted the problem.

In addition I've asked him to report his assessment of the engine, which sounds like a bag of spanners. I reacon I have a shot EGR valve and possibly a knacked valve lifter... :(

Well, Good news, a PASS. But it needed a new trackrod end. Annoying thing is this is the second time I've replaced a part with a cheaper alternative and its failed on me. Lesson to learn there I think.

Bad news. They lent me a Disco 2 TD5 to play with. Mmmmmmm, not bad!! (No,no,no, stay loyal to the Hippo, but its got a low box, and climate control... NO, NO, NO) :D

None of the independents are cheap around our way. Glad yer freebie passed without any major damage to the wallet.:)
Ah,well, I haven't actually seen the bill yet!! Shouldn't be as bad as last year. MOT, rear diff mount changed and a track rod end. Parts and labour, I'm thinking £200?? Whats the guesses then? :D

Knowing Joyces I'd say closer to £300.
