Did you check the fluid reservoir or are you just gonna take your pants down and say 'insert large object here'?

well, pretty much the latter really. The chap I've left it with is pretty good really - otherwise I wouldn't have left it. He'll check the simple/cheap stuff first - but I wanted him to have a look at that rear wheel bearing anyway.

Turns out the clutch system had bugger all fluid in it. The garage bled it through, road tested, blah blah - They can't find any leaks.

It was £80 +vat for the recovery, then a bit of labour on top - not too bad I guess.

I couldn't really do anything about the fluid myself whilst broken down on the motorway - with no fluid to hand... ho hum, could have been a lot worse!

Thats good news!.... get yourself something like Green Flag recovery. Well worth it and if you have more than one vehicle they can cover you for what ever vehicle you are in. I have no fear of long distance and sleep well :)

yeah, we've got green flag cover free with the bank, but it's only the basic one - so they just recover you to a local garage within 10 miles. I suppose it would have saved me the recovery cost, but the repair could easily have been £80 more if I'd have taken it to a garage that dont know me...

Perhaps we should publish a google map with all helpful landyzone members on it - that way we'll have a national 4x4 recovery network - could even use the barter system!
