hi,
my 110 has developed a nasty steering knock if i hit any bump when driving the kickback is transfered up steering column,
ive done wheel bearings and now need to change steering box because its now incontinent and leaks on the street outside my house.
how much play should be in steering linkage between box and bulkhead?
and what else could be causing this.
ive had car in garage and theres nothing loose or worn.

how much play should be in steering linkage between box and bulkhead? Ideally none.
and what else could be causing this. Possible that the steering damper has failed, which could explain why all the shocks are taken up by the box.

Hope this helps.

thanks for answer,
i can move steering linkage by hand about a third of a turn and then hear a knock, there is very littleplay if none at all on the knuckles, how can i check if steering damper is U/S?

Take one end of the damper off and see how much resistance there is when you push and pull it. It should about be the same both ways.

Have you adjusted the backlash on the steering box?

In the middle of the top of your box you should find a screw with a locking nut where you can make the adjustment.

what way do i turn ajusting screw?
the steering box is knackered needs replaced. i will just change damper for new item at same time thanks for advice

If there is too much play then, whilst holding the lock nut with a spanner, tighten the screw just a little at a time until the play is taken out. Don't overtighten it or you risk damaging the worm inside. Be careful to hold the screw in place whilst you tighten the lock nut back up

Try a cap of brake fluid in with the power steering fluid, swells the joints in the pump !
