a year ago i started to strip a wing on the Defender back to bare metal and oxidation.

I quite vigorously scraped back the oxidation washed it with white vinegar then water then dried it with a hot air gun before using a very thick lumpy zinc paint on it. Then the weather changed so i gave it quick rub down and blew it in with Epsom green .

That was it, work got busy and I never got back to it.

I put it in the shop at the end of September to have new springs, shocks and bushes.

This evolved into a bit of welding a sports/decat exhaust, new galvanised turrets and spring holders and a paint job on the chassis and axles.

Three weeks later and it has now progressed again, onto a complete respray, panoramic glass, swing away Wheel carrier rear facing rear seats, new belts, cleaned inter-cooler and new hoses, a pump tweak, refurbished wheels, new tyres, running boards, chequer plate and other little things.

It looks a mess at the moment. Going to stick with the zinc paint approach and see how it goes. Hope to have it back for the bad weather.

I've had it since 2006, it's 17 and needs a spruce up. I really didn't get on with the TD5 in the disco i had and can't/won't part with the cash for the ford engined one. Hence an expensive rebuild.

I'm going to do the interior myself when its back with me has anyone fitted a disco1 speedo binnacle with disco clocks. Whats involved?

I should add that the bank account is looking quite red and will continue to do so for quite some time.

nice garage :D lucky guy.

im waiting on the wind and rain to feck off before i can get on with finishing the welding and painting on my yolk.

oh and i know the feeling RE spending alot of money on an old truck.

i totted up ive spent 5k so far on mine - its 27 years old. - its still a pile of bits.

i went shopping a while back with the idea of spending 10k on a "newer" landy. what i saw didnt impress me much .... chassis' in worse nick than my current one , bulkheads in worse nick , more miles , no service history etc etc . decided id rather plow the 10k into mine......

Hoping to stop short of 10K but you never know. (Looks over shoulder to check where about of Doris) I'm guessing 5+ at the moment.

Basically shes done a bit of off-roading at the start of my ownership, toured Europe three times , got as far as Spain and the Czech republic. I no longer have time for off road/ green lanes the purchase of the T25 has redunded the requirement for long euro trips in her so now planning retirement as a motorway cruiser for work and down the shops for some beer.

The garage is an old hen house i think, on a farm near me the guy is not a big Landrover fan he's into power boats and Landcruisers but he's working on mine, a landcruiser, a very old and very very rusty fastback Mustang and has a few other projects in the yard. Bit of a perfectionist really, i'm fine with that but it does put the time/price up a bit.

Here's an 'artists' impression of what I'm expecting. Don't slag it too much till you see it finished.

At least I know the guy can paint now. These look powder coated but you can still get the wheel nuts on. Set of BFG muds should go on next week. Unfortunately the landy is still waiting for paint.
To those who looked at these on the for sale section and decided against. I am so glad you never bought them.

nice:biggrin1: just an idea for the trim try CAR BUILDER SOLUTIONS ONLINE (CBSONLINE) kit car parts and accessories suppliers :rolly:

any idea what they did to your oxidisation on your panels ?

the bottoms of my wings and the bottom of my rear arch are oxidised :(

They were at a loss re the oxidation but I've had some success with zinc paint on the pitting before filler.

They have had a go with that and we will have to wait and see. I'm using Cplate on the back door because i'm fitting (I'm having fitted) a swing away wheel carrier

Gattso

Close but no cigar . they do have them but they are not quite right. Thanks anyway.

sounds like a good fix for me for the time being.....

as i said in the other thread the only day i need mine to look good is the 10th of july :D after that its a workhorse :d

Progress again All bits painted and waiting to go back on. In the photo attached the rest of the body above the 'waist' will be black (panoramic windows) the back door is blue below and black above. Starting to go back together now and in true 'Grand Designs' a tad over budget. Wish I had the time to put in myself on some of the lobs but i will be doing the interior, slowly.

Those wheels will be for sale along with the side windows if anyone is interested?

It is a scouse landy! Well near as makes no difference to anyone who isn't a real scouser.

I'm hoping the horizontal black stripes on its main body will detract from this effect along with the the big bag hanging off the back with SWAG written on it.

 and metal bars on the rear window

I'm away this week auditing the people who make all of lr's propshafts and drive shafts very interesting but no progress reports on my landy and my laptop bag is too small to smuggle anything out. Staying under the m6 bridge by fort dunlop jeez there are some big rats round here.
