Thats not what the people at the jobcenter told me, but Ill take your word for it over theirs.
The other problem is, because Im doing my degree, nobody wants to fund any training for me, because they reckon Ill be gone as soon as I graduate. Ive got a job now, so Ill just go with the flow for the next few months, stick with the gym and the degree, and keep an eye out for other opportunities.

Larger companies have very open policies (so long as no drink-drive etc.) - so gaining a job becomes more about the attitude of the person, than their age or experience. You’ll find they can buddy-up people with experienced drivers for a few weeks.

I used to drive vans in London during the long vacs. On a car licence, he could be driving for DPD or one of the others.
 
You cling on to trying to get a degree like a drowning man clutching at a straw.
Give up on it, get one job or maybe two or even three. I've done three at the same time, then at least you'll be earning some dosh.
Then use what little free time you have to think about what you really want to get out of life.
And, before you ask, storeman in a uni food store, barwork in the evenings and washing up in a hotel on a Satdi night.
You can always get barwork, and you should be able to get van driving unless you live in the middle of nowhere.

Sorry, I forgot the part where Im somehow supposed to be worth less than anyone else? Sure, Im no better than anyone else, but its called minimum wage for a reason, and its been a thing for about a decade before I was born, and its there for a reason.

More than half the people who leave school now go to uni and get degrees. And sure, if I was studying the sociology of sandwiches or something stupid like that then yeah, its a waste of time, but Im not, Im studying mechanical engineering.

I might start online private tuition, for GCSE level (on a subject I can do that in, like maths or physics).

I do.
And there was a time between unis that I was working 2 jobs, one full time and the other on sundays, delivering covid tests. 6 days a week, kept me busy, but Ive little to show for it.

OK I've looked into it and it does seem that you need a degree in Mech Eng to stand a chance of progressing in that field.

I flunked before even getting that far!
I also have a house, car, family oh, and a land Rover.
Son's friend did a degree in motor sport mechanical engineering, got him nowhere pointless. He has just moved into a accountancy job after a few years doing a dead end job.

How in the hell do you think you can teach anybody to follow through with learning to the end?
You cant even sort out a basic check or basic wiring checks on a LR which doesnt have much to stop it running.

You have been given so much advice but I have yet to see you come back with any results for further help.

I will not bore you with how life works. I quit higher education ( much to my fathers disgust) I retired 12-15 yrs in age than he did. So I did fine.

Fix the bloody discos.

Common sense is a great thing and has worked well for me and many others.

I am out of here till it gets to "I have done the basics checks and this is what I have"

Same here, signed my name on a lever papers and that was it. Did it so I could go into work. No uni debt and bought a house at 26.

Apprenticeships are far better than degrees now.
 
I left school at 8, lived in a box at the side of the M40 motorway.
Progressed to a shed at 12 years old...

Nah not really.
I left school (absolutely hated it) at 16 and was working the next week, got on the buildings at 18 and we started buying our first house when I was 24.
Have worked bloody hard for all we own and still hate school to this day.
