Disco Inferno

My Disco is being used to pull the old caravan about 200 miles tommorow so im a bit hesitant to remove the studs into the exhaust manifold incase they snap. Is there any reason why a blanking plate cant be installed between the egr and the flexi pipe to the intercooler pipe and then just remove the electric plug from the valve??? I have undone the flexi pipe and can see the valve is in the closed position at the moment.

No reason at all and I would have thought that would be a prudent move just before going on your holiday.

When you get back, strip it down fully, blank off at the manifold, install a new top intercooler hose and wash out the 'cooler.

Cheers and good luck

Done it and to be fair it realy dosn't feel any different. I can now hear the turbo spinning up tho. I have seen a lovely turbo hard pipe kit with silicon hoses on ebay 300 TDI Discovery Alloy Intercooler Pipes on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-Jul-08 16:53:30 BST) £100 delivered. Ill have my holiday like you say and then remove all the EGR valve piping including little electric box thingy and then fit this bling bling turbo hose set after washing the intercooler out. I'm also after a Decat down pipe to go with it all. Is it best to unplug the EGR wiring or leave it on for how I have blanked it? Or will it make no difference if the wiring is removed? Cheres for your reply Biglad

The difference is subtle but I found that I noticed them most when towing and or on hills.

This is step one of a process that should take your Disco from, well a bit pants really, to something quite usable and pleasant to drive.

Just for your info, Paddocks do these:Silicone Turbo Hoses

Scuse my ignorance, what is the egr , & why do you blank it off in conjunction with a de-cat pipe, which I have got.

EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation and is a device for guess what, recirculating exhaust gases in an effort to reduce pollution levels.

They are unneccesary in todays regs and put a lot of rubbish and black gunk back into your engine - so most people decide to blank it off.

Do a search and find out more

Seen the pipes at Pads Biglad but if I keep the standard intercooler pipe ill have to blank that off as well. Intercooler pipe would look a bit lumpy and bodgy and has an extra excuse to leak (Bit like the rest of my Landy) Besides I quite like shiney bits:D I have also heard that after egr and decat that removing the intermediate silencer can also help. Have you done this mod? Where can you get the straight centre box replacement pipes for 300 tdi?

I must say that I agree with you, those pipes you found do look VERY nice.

Re the middle section of the exhaust, I haven't done it yet, but others have and say that the improvements just keep coming. Don't know of a supplier off hand.

For me it's a breathing thing, starting from the air filter going through the engine and all the way through the exhaust system, the easier the engine can breathe, the better.

Just to add to this, I got my de-cat pipe and centre pipe from MM 4X4 and at a reasonable price, haven't fitted them yet(lack of time) and also have EGR removal kit.

One thing that is troubling me though is the centre pipe has to mate to a flange which means buying a rear section to match or chop flange off and weld to existing pipe which I don't really want to do, so does any know where to get a rear section that would bolt on or anyone who has done this using the MM supplied pipe?

Cheers,
Steve
