The bloody thing! The RHS lower boot lid wire support strap thingie has just snapped. The rubber cover has hidden this from me until I sat on it and it sagged a lot. The bolts comnnecting it to the body and boot lid are well corroded and will be a bastard to shift but where will I get one of these things?

I have checked some spares sites but no joy. Is there any one out there.........?

LOWER TAILGATE CABLE ALR5237 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. :)...

These really are one of the easiest jobs I have ever come across on the P38, Crookie, If you get the part, the specialists usually supply the genuine article with new bolts etc all in place, even pointing in the right direction, get a deep drive hexagon socket, check the fit on the new bolts, I think it is 10mm, but you can't tell from the old rusty bolt head, hammer it on the remains of the old bolt head and you'll be amazed how easily it comes out, once both are out, simply bolt on the new strap, putting some waxoyl, copper grease or vaseline on the new bolts in case you've still got the beast when they rust through next time round! Good Luck. They should be about £20 a side.

e bay mate I got 2 for £19.50 easy to fit but the old ones can be a sod to get off 8mm bolts and rubber covers provided.

I had a bugger of a job getting one of the rusted studs out : ended up with mole grips on it and it came off. As a temp measure I removed the rubber outer ( had to cut to widen just below the round end) and put a thin chain down through it : fixed a ring to the chain and put the covers back on. Looks good as new and it'll do me meantime.
