Ok guys, need a little advice please.

I was on the motorway in my 1998 P38 DSE, when I got the good old EAS 35mph fault flash on the dash.

The suspension dropped to its bump stops.

My compressor is working and pumping air strongly, but has no effect on lifting the vehicle up.

I have read a fault using my faultmate, which is saying ''front right height sensor - out of range''

Now, is this the cause of my problem, or is this fault simply because the vehicle is so low at the moment?

Thanks is advance!

Sounds likely to me. Mine did the same with a faulty front right sensor. While you are at it check the airbags for leaks and change them if they are over 7 years old.

If you were on the motorway presumably you were in Low mode. In Low mode that sensor can be set at anything from 75-140 to adjust the height of that particular corner. What your fault means is that the sensor was sending a reading to the ECU of less than 75 or more than 140 at that height. That will cause a hard fault if it also reads out of range on the other settings. If it's just a glitch and when the suspension drops to access mode the sensor then reads between 50 and 110 it should rise, if the sensor then gives good reading the system should work again with the fault logged. If it is stuck on access after cancelling and reseting i would say you need a new sensor. With Faultmate if it's the FCR i think you can only read and delete faults, don't know if it has an unlock function. A better option for working with the EAS is the EASunlock software. Were you can adjust the settings as well as read and cancel them and unlock the suspension from a hard fault lockup.

Cheers Wammers!

How much is his EAS unlock stuff?

The range rover had been sitting on a grass bank at an angle for 1 day just before we started off on the motorway, I wonder if this is linked somehow?

Maybe. It maybe just a glitch but is an indication that the sensor is capable of read wrong. So to be watched. EASunlock is available on Ebay for around £18.00 to £24.00 it depends, all you are buying is the cable the software is free to download. There is one idiot from Spain selling it at £49.00 plus silly post. There is one on there at moment for around £18.95 including cable and software. You need a laptop to use it, many people struggle if they have not got an old comp with serial port though. If you have a newer laptop only with USB you need an adaptor, it is this that causes the problems, a bitch to get working sometimes.

You can download the EASunlock software free from www.rswsolutions.com. A cable is less than a tenner on Ebay.
However if you have the FCR, I believe that when it clears the faults it unlocks the EAS. BBS Guy will correct me if I'm wrong.

If the compressor is running and it's not lifting, then it is likely you have a leak.
If an airbag developed a serious leak on one corner, the first sign for the EAS ECU would be an out of range reading from the relevant height sensor which would be logged as a fault. If the EAS ECU is then unable to lift the car it will give the slow 35 mph message and drop to the bump stops to level the car.

Cheapest cable on Ebay is £18.95 with software on a disc. Good thing to do would be to remove outlet filter and see if air is escaping from exhaust as compressor runs. If so the leak is internal to valve block. System needs resetting then work from there.

I too have been getting grief from EAS, very slow to lift yet stays at height overnight, but a short run to shops and ten minutes later it's way down to access height and a long time to rise again. Have checked for leaks but can't find any, compressor is good, now thinking it's the black box (driver pack?) beside the valve blocks. This car is more demanding than any woman!

More likely to be the compressor worn.

I had an out of range on my FCR, due to the numpty tyre fitter liffting ther whel off at the wrong point causing it to drop the suspension. the FCR reset it.. no longer any probs,,,,

I agree with that Data. How many times do people need telling treat the EAS as two seperate items. Pressure generation and storage side and actuation side. If you have no air pressure, the other side, although it maybe fault free, will never raise the vehicle.

blimey is that the age you should change them?
mine has just been changed 15 years later, first time 1995 model.
