I had a dream (not literally) a friend of mine was selling a 2002 1.8 freelander mot failure for £250 , cosmetically perfect, could I buy it, do the work myself ( if got a series 3 so I've cried , bled and sweat on many occasions ) and have it in back for under £300 including the cost of the car? Today it passed the Mot with me only spending £47 on it , so I'm well chuffed , it's got one advisory I need help with , rear diff rubber split , I have given it a bit of a shake and I think the only one that is split is the rear passenger side . I can see the 3 bolts that need removing , I might take the back box off for access. The head room is pretty good , do I need to lift it or support anything or can I just remove the bolts ( yeah I know probably seized ) slip the new one in and tighten or is it not that easy ???

Here you go and well done fella

You might want to put a jack under the diff, but they come out easy as.

Bare in mind the main bolt that holds it on has a captive nut, don't try and undo the nut, undo the bolt. You'd have to be a right plonker to try and undo the nut

Its usually the front one that goes.

Thanks all , I don't think it is the front one , I've tried rocking all of them and the only one that moved is the passenger side , im assuming (I could be wrong) that the is LH ? Looks like an easy job but rusted bolts are a pain .

Well done, I have had a similar experience, pretty car needs TLC on the mechanical side but now practically finished ie; serviced from top to bottom. I will have to do the diff supports on mine in the near future but it can wait until we get back from Borneo in October

Does anyone have a name of a supplier where I can buy one insert for rear mounting ? I don't want all 3 and would be happy to retain original bracket , are all 3 inserts universal ? , thanks for all your support . and can I again clarify please is passenger side LH ? thanks again

The standard Metalastic bush is only available already fitted to the bush carrier. There are polyurethane bushes available, which are supplied in sets of 3, without the bush carrier.

this chap in a muppet and shouldn't be taken seriously or watched. His VCU video is proof of that
You maybe right but at least he showns poor unfortunate souls something when they know nothing. Its how I got started. Would never attempted wishbones if I had not watch one of his videos.

I've got one of the yellow poly ones if you want it.

PS the poly bush fits all three diff supports. Rule of thumb :- the larger part of poly bushes all face the diff. Cut out old rubber insert with a hole cutter, angle grind down to bracket, join cuts with hacksaw. Lightly sand the edges of poly bush and apply a drop of silicon grease. I pushed mine together with black and decker work bench. I just changed the front bush with poly one on advice by someone who knows more than me.

If you look at some of his video's they show poor knowledge of whats he's doing. When advising peeps how to do something it's best to do so with the right knowledge. Look at the vcu video he made and it will show you what I mean. His description of the vcu is a good example. He's making money from it. Sometimes when this happens peeps try to cash in and make as many video's as they can, on any subject, regardless of knowing how to do a job right or not. Thats not good for peeps to follow regardless of it helping them or not.

,just thinking though would poly on one side and not the other cause an issue ?

Yes.
You need to do at least the 2 rear bushes at the same time in poly, or the diff will be unstable under load.
You can get away with doing just the front in poly, as it's on it's own and under the most load.

Oh , ok thanks anyway did wonder , i might just buy a standard replacement , thanks
Might save my fingers , ive been lucky so far I still have all 10
