So for the past few weeks I have been getting this horrible whirring noise from the transmission caused either by the spigot or release bearing, though more recently the clutch has started to slip as well.

2 years ago I bought a 5 piece Valeo clutch kit and supplied it to Land Rover to fit - LR wanted £700 for the same kit, I paid less than £400 - however upon checking my records I have found they only fitted the clutch and DMF nothing else. So what the **** happened to my parts? Goes on their shelf I suppose. I was surprised they charged £400 labour for the job when I was quoted £650. Clearly they just shunted the box back fitted what they could and ****ed off the rest.

Since then I have covered around 10k miles and have a possible bill for £600 or a hell of a lot of work ahead for what LR should have ****ing done in the first place.

First thing is they are getting an almighty bollocking in the morning as to why they didnt do as I ask. Second I will give myself the same bollocking for not checking the receipt properly, at the time It was a couple days to my 21st and was just excited to have my Landy back on the road after not having it for a couple months.

I doubt it but do I even have a leg to stand on when it comes to this? Or am I to just foot the bill myself and properly read the labour carried out this time...

Because you supplied parts, you have surely invalidated any warranty or goodwill, very surprised they agreed to fit your parts, bit like buying fish from supermarket for your fish shop to fry, doesn't work!
 
Depends on what your invoice says ...and why have you only just found this out ?

I rang and asked them before hand they said was fine and often happend. Sometimes people have specific parts they want fitted that LR cant supply. They where actually very nice about it... or so I thought.

Took me this long because as I said was a couple days before me 21st so was busy planning that and picked up me landy late on the day of the party I was throwing. So i just grabbed the Landy and was off. Like I said was just happy to have it back on the road.

I expected them to carry out my instructions not nick some parts and do half the job.

Invoice states they fitted the clutch and DMF nothing else and says "has clearly been offroaded" about 5 times

Did you read all that before you paid ?
Did you not query it at all ?
 
Were your "instructions" put in writing? Do you have a copy? Did you get a receipt for the parts you supplied? Does invoice say they didn't fit anything else, or just not listed them?
2 years and 10k later....you seriously expect them to be interested?

Got a receipt of parts supplied and works carried out.
I did glance at it but at the time I knew very little about LRs, even cars for that matter including what a spigot n releasing bearing even are. In all honesty it didnt mean that much then, it does now. I fully admit thats my mistake for not being more prudent.

Im pretty sure they will tell me to pi ss off but I can still tell them they are ****ing ****bags.

LR can try all they like to exlcude off roading but I know 2 people personally who have gotten work done, 1 was a new engine, even after off roading because LR didnt seal the snorkel...

I know because of whats stated on on the invoice given, it lists the clutch plate and DMF but nothing else. Even includes some extra cable ties they fitted but not the rest.

I highly doubt there is anything I can do or anything LR will do considering how long it has been, I fully accept that at least half of this is my problem and I should have realised sooner. I was young and had more faith in a brand than I should have.

2 years maybe but I dont drive that much. 10k miles, well below average! Just pis sed off because my current situation could have been avoided if the garage did their job properly. I would also like to know where my parts are that I supplied that where never fitted....
 
It could be all parts were used but only the main bits put down for reference, as you supplied parts they needn't list everything as they would if they were charging you!
Think you need to move on.
 
To be fair, based on 10k and your Avatar, I'd say you've done well ... I seriously doubt it's the dealers fault that things have worn or broke after 2 years use. Either you've used it too much in mud, or not enough and it's gone rusty, maybe .. ;)

You have NO proof they didn't fit something, and after two years how can you prove it even if the gearbox, engine and clutch assemblyare removed to make sure?

I'd leave it, caveat emptor, you should have checked the work way earlier than this.
 
They might have fitted the various ancillaries but just written 'fit clutch and flywheel assembly' (or something similar) on the invoice, because a lot of people assume that the bush and the bearing are part of the clutch assembly and will be changed at the same time. They'd probably itemise every last nut bolt and washer if they were charging you for them, but as you brought the parts with you they might not have said anything about this. I bet they didn't write 'undo bellhousing bolts' or 'put car on post lift' either, but this must have happened. Whilst it is annoying to have bits go so quickly, we don't know that they weren't changed at the same time. Bushes and bearings are wear items and you do a lot of urban driving (clutch intensive) and offroading (clutch intensive too). If it was 10,000 miles straight up and down the motorway in 5th it would be a different matter!
 
I think id be inclined to write this off and conclude that ID gained from the experience and would therefore never be in such a position again! We all learn from our mistakes

Yep no leg to stand on. Learn from it and move one. Don't worry we all have made the same mistake before.

clutch isn't that hard to do, couple mates pull the engine (or box) and do it yourself
 
Yeah I thought as much. Mainly needed to vent to a group that would understand. Didnt help having several glass of scotch....

Lesson learned. Read the fecking invoice, question bloody everything never go back to the main stealer.

Also me avatar was taken before the clutch was done! haha
