hi, I'm having a bit of a gear change issue. When driving normally generally ok but have a slight issue sometimes changing in lower gears and clutch feels a bit notchey. I think the clutch fork release arms are a bit worn.

When towing changing up is fine but changing down from 5th to 4th is impossible, not great when towing a heavy trailer up a hill. Have found that if I shove it in 3rd first I can get it in 4th but it is still a bit stiff. Is this the clutch fork release arms as well? If so will they eventually fail on me?

If it is the clutch fork release arms are they difficult to fix and is it a gearbox out job?

mine does the same and I do exactly what you said and push it up to 3rd and then down again.

if you want to check something have a look at the seat ball end (item 15 below) and the grub screw (item 14 below).

Sometimes the seat, which is plastic, wears out giving a bit of play making 4th difficult. Adjusting the grub screw should also guide the lower gear lever better.

My R380 would not let me change 5th to 4th without going across towards 3rd first. It was like that from when I got Landy until gearbox mainshaft stripped and I got a recon gearbox. Local garage had told me it was a box out job to fix, so I put up with it.
