Been doing some pricing for parts all parts to do head gasket including new bolts, Timing belt kit, P gasket head core plug ( the start of the problems) and crank shaft oil seal.
Paddocks price £130.
local dealer£138.
Island 4x4 £95.
£30 odd quid saving not to be sniffed at in this day and age, but what are Island 4x4 like.
I know quality is a feature to be considered as my local supplier charges £28 for head bolts and Islands are £11.66 I will insist in a Elrin good quality head gasket. any one have any input on the subject.

My other question is on parts web sites a lot of numbers are quoted on descriptions in particular is VA ///// and numbers behind it what number is it. my VIN number is SALLJGMF3MA150193 has this any relavence to the VA number.

I've never seen a bad report for Island 4x4 but with Paddocks well.......there's an existing thread about them somewhere.
Island 4x4 don't have overheads of the other two so their prices may/must reflect this, and they will give you the option of Genuine OEM and pattern parts.

Your VIN starts with MA~~~~ a 1995 model year disco.

shipping is very good with them. Also quick. I've ordered alot of stuff from them in the past and never had any problems at all

I bought a turbo off them 2 years ago and it was about £30 cheaper an another supplier, it's been fine, I would have no problem using them again.

Paddocks on the other hand I'm ****ed off with, placed and order with them last Thursday, rang them to sort out shipping(I live in Ireland), was told last Thursday shipment (£800) would be shipped same day. Told girl, and problems with this order, please call me as my Discovery is off the road waiting for these parts.

Rang them today to find out where order was and was told that order has not been shipped as they do not have everything in stock. Don't think I will use Paddocks again, there loss have to place another order for £650 waiting for prices from 2 other suppliers.

I used Island 4x4 for the first tie the other day after asking "famous four" to confirm something to then find they put the price up £10 on the website within an hour of asking, hmmm something not right there, so i went to Island 4x4, very pleased with the service so far, got a text this evening saying this is your tracking number and if you go on dpd's website tomorrow i'll see a one hour time slot of when it'll be delivered.

will definately use again if their service is like that.

Had great service from them. Cheaper than anywhere else. Free postage over 50 quid. Both parcels arrived next day with a great tracking system.
Can't fault them.

I've never used them but have been impressed by their website and product range - sell engine components for a rebuild such as bearing shells, valves, rings etc which is a bonus.

I use Island 4x4 all the time there prices are about the best , delivery is free for orders over £55 and usually nextday delivery
example td5 clutch kit including duel mass flywheel £266 + vat ordered sunday night delivered tuesday morning

Parts often have a model year and chassis number when they changed; either up to that year/number, or from that year/number. In the chassis number the model year is a letter. So for example you see a part which says it fits up to VA654321, you know its good for yours which is MA150~~~. In general the letters go up a bit like registration letters used to. Simples really.

Used them recently for clutch master and slave cylinder, they have a choice of Genuine, OEM and the other crappy one. 24hr carriage with a tracking number on ordering.

Text messages on the day of delivery giving you a 1hr window of when parts delivered.

Would bypass the others now even if a few pence dearer due to their efficient service, long may it continue.

I have had nothing but good service from them, I ordered a TD5 radiator on the phone one afternoon and it was here the next morning, it was also the cheapest I could find. Helpfull, efficient service and recommended.

:)I have to say that after finding the cheapest supplier of the parts required I went for Island, received an E_mail thanking for the order, then the following morning another giving the order tracking number with a expected time of delivery. The parts were first class quality and I would use them again any time, Good parts at keen prices with excellent postage and fast delivery, all wrapped up with great comms...Its all I would expect from a good trader....I was well satisfied and reading this tread it appears I am not alone in this.

got a next day defender rad from them.

touch of rust on 1 of the brackets so they doubled the warranty time.

they have a sticker on the defender now.

good bunch that lot.

I live 2 minutes up the road from them, so always call in to pick up parts, they have massive stocks so 99% off the shelf, good prices & great bunch of guys & very helpful. What more could you ask.

I'm off now to have a browse of their website and I don't actually need anything. Maybe they'll tempt me with an accessory . . .
