Just been looking around on google maps and was wondering if there is a green lane on the outskirts of Royston? I think it's called Ashwell Street? Apparently an old roman road that leads its way to Baldock. Tempted to check it out today but still unsure as don't want it to be a wasted journey. Any info would be great!!

Would rather not have to pay for an ordinance survey map! Any way of finding out online at all? Or if someone has one of these maps could they find out for me?

you tight bastid there only about a 5er from wh smiths or somewhere like that plus they will show you more not just the one your looking at

Did put a post on here a while back with a link to local council definitive maps so peeps can check its legal. Would also show you where the others are and it's free

Which is why I posted 'my' link .. ;)

Personal recommendation (to the OP, L90STA) is good but many people won't just rock up and post green-lane locations simply 'cos you ask for them! Far too many times do the lanes get ripped up by ****wits which causes _all_ 4x4 users to get tarred with the ****wit brush. Some of us make real efforts to research lanes, their legality, their drive-ability, their beauty and want to preserve that research and the lanes from disuse.

OTOH many of us who won't just tell people where lanes are, will respond and take you around some, I've done it a number of times, driving sensibly and trying to educate 'newbies' into the tread-lightly or country-code and how to, hopefully, keep the lanes open and good to use for anyone, whatever they drive.

Here here,

Eggsackerly!

Im not going to do all the leg work just for some one to go and rip up a lane.

Like Paul said, im willing to take out/educate noobies though. :)

Thanks for all the advice guys, yes i will admit that i am a 'noobie'! so I would appreciate someone to show me the local ropes if anyone is around one weekend? rather than go it alone and probably end up sh*t creek!

that ashwell street lane in on the os map goes from ashwell to somewhere around bassingborn but its closed to motor vehicles i had a look a couple of weeks ago
