Here are some pictures of a fuel tank removed from an E reg (1987) RRC. This was converted from a 3.5L EFi V8 to a 200TDi from a Discovery.

You can see the fuel pump on the top and the sender on the side of the tank (sorry hard to see).

As you can see in this image, the wiring to the fuel pump has been cut. This confused me as the pump won't run in this state!

The fuel pump is easy to remove - 5 screws. Upon removing what I thought was the fuel pump, it turns out that the pump had been removed and fitted with pipe.

Hope the pictures and descriptions help! :)

yes thanks markcleave, thats aswered my origanal question

its allready out, and is a bit more modern than the old 3ltr, this one has glow plugs, its a slow revver though and was flat out at 60, not that i am a speed merchant, it was the auto box that i wanted rid of as i tow a caravan and you have full control with manual box, engines for sale if your interested.

I tow a caravan and sometimes my digger, I find auto is much better than manual.:)

It may surprise you to learn that auto boxes are much better for towing than manual boxes.

i would agree on modern auto boxes, nothing to touch them, but the old three and four speed are crap as there is to much difference in the ratio's

That is not what i have found, towing is much more pleasant with an auto box.

if the engine is up to spec then a 4 or even 2 speed! auto is good..but it does expect to behind a proper engine, not a slow reving pile of £$%..that it was not designed to be mated too..

The question is not weather the engine is proper, which it is...... but weather the gearbox is ?

Perkins (not the Prima) coupled to a 4 speed with overdrive will pull anything you want for as long as you want as fast as you want..... sort the pump out and stick it back in !

:D

Thanks for the offer... I am looking for one, but an older 4 cylinder engine (not for RR)... although wouldn't mind seeing a photo if you have one handy ?

Was it slow revving or just the wrong gearing ? We had one with similar size engine that would happily do 80 !
