i think i will put some snow/ice/winter type tyres on my 18'' and get better road tyres on the 19'' i know its not the same as having diff locks and all the disco mods but as said it will improve performance when required.

it didn't get stuck once, it just wouldn't pull that one car in tho circumstances. i could have pulled it the other way but opted for thrashing my mums car around on the ice for 5 mins in reverse!! so it wasn't an issue as such.

and it did pull a few cars on the snow so i'll just drive on by in icy conditions!
 
I'd go with that, probably the low end of the range will be without it if any then, the top of the range one's would more likely have it, hence mine being a hse, has it.

There are loads of 16" sets floating about too, so you could have a second set for more aggressive tyres. There's a much greater choice of tyres for 16's too. I picked up a couple of full sets of 5, 16's off fleabay and didn't pay more than £50 for either, complete with usable (just) tyres.
 
yes i sore that some were as why i said don't no if i got it don't no were i sore it may of been on rave i don't no if i have the right rave the model it covers is 99-2003 and mine
is 95-96
 
Good idea, might do the same, i have original 19''s at the moment, thinking of getting them refurbed, would be good to keep them for the summer and and some 16''s for the winter. Will just have to reinforce the loft a bit.:D
 
i was thinking of getting 16" but people said they look stupid to small so i don't no
my owners manual says about TC (when fitted) does'nt say its fitted

I've got 18's with road tyres and 16's with A/T's, and tbh I think the 16's give the appearance of filling the arches better, even thought the tyres are same diameter. I reckon it's cause sidewalls are taller. If you were to have a set of 16's stashed for off-roading you'd also feel the benefit over the rough stuff cause that extra sidewall flexes better and soaks up bumps better.

Looking at RAVE the TC has two additional control valves in the ABS circuit, and presumably a software upgrade to the ECU. They can't be too difficult to fit if they were an option, and if you then added an ECU from an equiped car you'd have TC. I don't see why if you added a post-99 ECU why you shouldn't have all wheel TC (BECM might need telling it's there I suppose). I'll have to look into that a bit further..... all comments welcome.

Already found two glitches in that plan, as additional valves are included as part of ABS modulator and can't be added (but you could switch modulators), secondly pre and post 99 cars use different ABS looms with different connectors, so upgrading to 2 wheel TC is possible, but not 4, without at least some rewiring.

Just to add my 2 pence worth, I find the P38 excellent off road with the right tyres.

Mine runs General Grabber AT2 on 18 inch rims and it's pretty good. The air suspension gives you decent ground clearance when you need it and keeps the centre of gravity low when you need it on a road. There's a thread on Rangerovers.net warning against converting to springs from a safety point of view but from my perspective the air is just so good, why would you not want to persevere with it? It's not that complicated!

The manual control of the low box is also very handy.

here's a quick question something i have only just noticed on the back tail gate i have 2.5dse i have just noticeed on the log book 2.5dt which is it and whats the diff :doh:
 
It'll be what's on the log book.
Guys have been bring dt's up to DSE spec and beyond for years. Doesn't really matter if its got all the appropriate toys.
 
Some years back i used new P38's on the Land Rover instructors course at Solihull and Eastnor. They were as good as any other Land Rover product with the exception of the approach/departure angles. perhaps the only better vehicles was the 3.5 V8 SWB Land Rover which was orgasmic off road!
 
I used mine in mud with not so good street tires and I never got stuck going up hills, down hill I got side ways but it could be inexperience. The other day went to a hill with an up hill stone road and It went up and down without any issue. Hi Gents,

My 1996 2.5 DSE Auto on 16" scorpions on sheet ice, driven by the wife, who is not familiar with off road driving, pulled a RAV4 out of a ditch in high range reverse with absolutely no slip or drama at all - Sorry there was a slight drama when the muppet in the rav decided to attempt to drive out of the ditch forwards whilst still attached - the P38 simply continued and pulled it out backwards the drama was that the RAV didn't stand a chance even when it hit the tarmac it didn't slow the P38's progress at all. How impressed was the wife, what with the performance it has shown in the snow she definitely will not accept anything less now - job done.
