Hi all looking for a bit of help and advice please.
My freelander 1 td4 is smoking like a beagle!! So much so that it's now confined to base. Smoke generally whiteish. Replaced turbo intercooler pipes but to no avail despite one being cracked. Took it for mot, on way home, smoky as ever under load, and started squealing a bit. As I turned into my drive squeal became a grind.
Anyone able to offer any help or advice on what it could be and what do I need to do to sort or is it down to the scrappy with her?

Is it losing power when driving? Did it pass it's m. o. t
Grinding noise might be a worn tensioner or bearing, don't write it off yet.

Thanks for the reply.
Used to lose power anything over 70mph or maybe less on even slightest incline but would pick up again straight after. Failed mot on fèw minors only. Worried that grinding came from being a squeal under acceleration then changed to a grind. Fitted new alternator just prior to mot and tensioners seemed fine then.

Lack of power could be the MAP sensor and/or fuel pump failing.
Main way to check the turbo is take it off and spin it so you can hear the bearings. They can be reconditioned or replaced for a reasonable price.
Don't think you need to ditch it, you could do the above yourself.

If you used a cheap tensioner they last about 2 minutes then disintegrate. That could be the Grinding noise.
